Job Summary Statement:

Supports the Office of the Dean of Students by serving as coordinator of the Student Conduct Committee, the volunteer Campus Advocate program, the Alcohol Diversion program, the DMCA compliance program, and the processing of student appeals and grievances. The incumbent recruits volunteers for the conduct committee and volunteer advocate program, schedules and facilitates hearings, prepares documents for the Vice Chancellor, and ensures compliance with DMCA and diversion program requirements. Communicates with students as well as faculty and staff on these matters.

Percentage of Time: 100

Shift Start: 8:00 am

Shift End: 5:00 pm


Qualifications for Position

Required/Preferred

1 .Superior writing skills necessary to prepare materials for public presentations, formal administrative reports, and other communications, often under severe time constraints. Demonstrated writing skills to
compose, proofread and edit executive correspondence and reports for correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and concise and clear syntax.

2.Ability to establish and develop collaborative working relationships with members of other campus departments and representatives of off-campus entities such as representative of community groups, etc.

3.Demonstrated judgment and tact appropriate to dealing with highly sensitive and confidential situations, such as student discipline matters. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information with tact and
discretion.

4.Ability to present ideas and opinions in a clear, persuasive form.

5. Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate English vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels; ability to make oral presentations on
various issues, both prepared and extemporaneously, to individuals, small groups, and large groups; ability to give progress reports on projects.

6.Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of data, provide clear interpretations and explanations of results, and recommend actions relevant to divisional goals and needs.

7.Demonstrated ability to coordinate efforts with co-workers in completion of projects.

8.Ability to work independently, organize work (both electronically and paper files) with particular attention to detail and accuracy; demonstrated skill in assessing timelines and coordinating numerous assignments and projects simultaneously under heavy and fluctuating workloads and conflicting deadlines. Skill in setting priorities among a wide variety of competing tasks and demands.

9.Knowledge and understanding of theories of student development.

10.Knowledge of the role of student affairs and services in a large, public, urban research university with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. Experience in a student affairs environment.

11. Advanced level skill in operating personal computer in a LAN environment, using Windows software including word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, scheduling applications, electronic
mail, and web browsers.

12. Degree from accredited 4-year institution required. Advanced degree in Education or related field preferred.

13. Familiarity with university policies and procedures and Federal and state laws, specifically with regard to confidentiality of student records (e.g., FERPA). Understanding of FERPA's implications in student conduct
administration.

14. Ability to report to work on time and professionally attired.

15. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact effectively, diplomatically, and cooperatively with high volume of administrators, faculty, staff members, students, and members of the general public from
diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

16. Ability to maintain equanimity and decorum in face of resistance or hostility. Ability to diplomatically handle difficult or urgent matters in a confident and proficient manner.

17. Ability to analyze situations and/or information, identify problems, propose alternative solutions, and/or discern when action of higher level is needed.

18. Familiarity with activities within a public research university.
