Graduate Assistant Position Description
Title: Graduate Assistant, Greek Life
Department: Office of Student Life
Time
base: 20 hours per week
Schedule: Varies, Monday – Friday, 8:00am –
5:00pm, some evenings and weekends
Salary: $887/month
Position Summary: The Graduate Assistant is responsible for
assisting with the development and management of Greek letter organizations and
their student leaders. CSUDH currently
has 13 recognized Greek organizations with another two being chartered this
fall. Greek letter organizations include
social sororities and fraternities and culturally affiliated sororities and
fraternities.
General Duties:
- Support efforts to establish more active presence of Greek organizations on campus
- Work to improve communication and unity among members of the Greek community
- Promote and communicate Greek’s contributions to campus and surrounding community
- Coordinate programming efforts of individual Greeks and Greek Councils (UGC and NPHC)
- Provide in-service risk management training workshops (2 per semester) for Greek community
- Implement Order of Omega (Greek Honor Society) by May 2011
- Implement Greek Academic Honors Program (individual and organizationally)
- Participate as a member of CSUDH Alcohol Awareness Team
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge and abilities
- Current enrollment in a graduate program on a CSU campus.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking skills, and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism and determine appropriate application of policies or guidelines
- Experience: for the initial appointment, evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work. For subsequent appointment, evidence of satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree
- Education: Equivalent to completion of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree and registration in a CSU graduate degree program.
Note:
Exceptions to the stated minimum eligibility qualifications may be
granted at the sole discretion of the University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of Greek letter organizations on college campuses
- General knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior
- Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning events and student involvement
- Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with interruptions
- Ability to work independently and at times with minimal supervision
- Ability to comply with all CSU Dominguez Hills confidentiality policies
