Student Services Graduate Assistant
The Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Student Services Office is seeking a Masters level student, preferably with Federal Work Study (FWS) to work 10-20 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting with student related issues and special projects, coordinating programming for student events, and general clerical duties in the Student Services office. The Graduate Assistant will provide assist basic advising to both undergraduate and graduate students, review graduation applications for MS students, and assist in writing and gathering data for reports for accreditation review. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to listen well and provide timely responses, possess good problem-solving skills, and have a positive disposition.

Compensation: $15/hour
Hours per week: 10 – 20 hours

Admissions Counselor I

The USC School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) Office of Student Services seeks an energetic, collaborative and detail-oriented Admissions Counselor to play a key role in the recruitment and admission of prospective SCA students. This position will serve as the first point of contact to prospective SCA applicants by providing information related to the School, programs and application process.
Some job accountabilities include:

  • Counsel applicants on admissions policies and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries (in person, by telephone and via online communication) sent by prospective students regarding the School and admissions process.
  • Give in-person and online informational presentations regarding the School, programs and admissions process.
  • Assist in the processing/coordination of admission applications for the purpose of review by the faculty of the School.
  • Assist in coordination of admitted student programs.
  • Provide backup support and relief coverage within unit, as needed.

    MSSE Graduate Student Intern Opportunity

    The USC Marshall Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab seeks a master’s level student for the 2015-2016 academic year to assist with the Master of Science in Social Entrepreneurship program.  This person will support admissions and student-services tasks throughout the program’s yearly cycle and will have a chance to learn in-depth the operation of a graduate degree at USC. Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as-needed.

    Assistant Director of Career Services & Internships - Mount Saint Mary's University (Doheny Campus)

    Job Description:

    The Assistant Director of Career Services & Internships is responsible for assisting students in their preparation for professional employment and graduate or professional school by providing consistent, ongoing support through workshops, presentations, classes, individual appointments and access to career related resources on the Doheny campus. This position reports to the Director of Career Services & Internships and is part of a three person department.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Support and assist the Director and Associate Director of Career Services & Internships in achieving departmental goals and objectives.
    2. Provide individual career counseling to students and alumnae.
    3. Plan and implement two one-unit career planning classes per academic year.
    4. Organize, implement and coordinate alumnae panels, professional development workshops, off-campus trips to career-related events, on-campus events (e.g. job and internship fair, graduate school fair, nursing panels, etiquette dinner), and graduate forums.
    5. Maintain current, relevant graduate school information, job listings and internship opportunities on a daily basis.
    6. Collaborate with the Associate Director of Career Services & Internships on projects and programs.
    7. Design bulletin boards, fliers and posters and write short articles for the student bulletin and student publication. Additionally, promote services and job and internship opportunities via social media platforms as well as career planning services and activities to the campus community.
    8. Collaborate with academic and student affairs departments to present career-related information to the students (e.g. etiquette dinner, job and internship fair, etc.).
    9. Collaborate with other on-campus departments such as the Business Office, Admissions, Student Financing, Institutional Advancement, Campus Events, Counseling Psychology Services, and any and all other departments, as needed.
    10. Present career planning information at admissions programs, student orientations, academic classes and other campus activities.
    11. Facilitate on-campus workshops concerning job search techniques, exploring career options, resume writing, interviewing, graduate school options and plans, and other career-related topics.
    12. Maintain data and create reports regarding the progress and activities of the Career Services & Internships Department.
    13. Responsible for overseeing and reconciling budget.
    14. Create and administer content on department's website/portal in addition to troubleshooting and overseeing content on the Mount Career Network, the university's job and internship board, for students and alumnae.
    15. Mentor, train and supervise Career Services' student worker staff.
    16. Mentor, train and supervise Graduate Intern(s).
    17. Assist a variety of constituents from students, to parents, to employers, and to alumnae with career-related questions, opportunities, programs and concerns.
    18. Familiar with interest and skills inventory tools (e.g. Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, and StrengthsQuest).
    19. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:


    Qualifications/Requirements:
    • Earned Master's Degree in counseling, higher education or student-affairs related field required.
    • Experience in career counseling, higher education or student affairs.
    • Bi-lingual Spanish preferred.
    • Prior teaching/working experience at university level preferred.

    • Knowledge of Student Development Theory.
    • Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity.

We are seeking applicants for a Career Counselor Internship for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year. Intern will be paid hourly. The Career Counselor Intern is provided training and supervision, and a private office with a computer and CSUDH email account.  After training and when the Career Center counselors deem appropriate, intern will assist with weekly drop-ins, critique resumes, evaluate and interpret career assessments, take individual career appointments, present workshops, assist with major events such as job fairs, and work on special projects.

    Responsibilities: During initial training, intern will attend career workshops offered by the office, observe and participate in career counseling appointments, review and interpret assessments alongside counselor, conduct information interviews with staff to learn about the culture of each role, observe and participate in the critique of resumes, cover letters, and personal statements, and learn about services offered by the office and university. Intern will report directly to lead career counselor throughout the duration of their internship.

    Through training, the intern will observe the styles of the different counselors used in the office, and when ready, will work with individual students on career issues using a comprehensive career planning model. By co-facilitating workshops with staff counselors, the intern will observe the diversity of practices and methods used by the staff to gain experience in a variety of workshops. The intern will later lead the workshops alone. If available, the intern will participate in other activities including but not limited to weekly staff meetings, meetings with career counselors, meet and greets with employers, professional development activities, and visits to other career centers.

    Intern will have an individual project to complete each semester and that will be determined once internship has been finalized. In the fall, intern will participate in the Career and Internship fairs as well as Graduate School week. An example of the recent Fall project was aimed at revamping workshops which include choosing a major/career, writing a winning resume, and getting the internship you want. During the spring semester, intern will have the opportunity to participate in the General Job and Internship Fair along with doing drop-ins and resume critiques. An example of the recent Spring project was to work with the new social media intern to engage student population using technology and market the Career Center. These projects will give the intern concrete evidence of having contributed to the office and will enhance the intern's resume.

    Internship Requirements:  
    1.     Intern must have a BA/BS degree, have demonstrated interest in a career related to career counseling in higher education, and be enrolled in their 2nd or 3rd year of an accredited graduate program. Candidate should be eligible to receive academic credit for the internship. Candidates pursuing a graduate degree related to the field of career counseling will be given first preference.  
    2.     Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours during scheduled office hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) is required.
    3.     Candidate must have quality interpersonal skills, appropriate education on student development, past experience in providing direct services to students, and ability to interact well with faculty and staff. They must also demonstrate aptitude to work well with culturally diverse populations.
    4.     Experience with computer-based career guidance programs is preferred. Familiarity with social media such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and experience using Prezi desired.

    Salary: $11.28 per hour

    Career Guidance Counselor Assistant Training and Opening Available (ELAC)

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    CGCA will be working in the Computer Applications & Office Technologies (CAOT) Department as part of the Technology & Logistics (T&L) Program. CGCA would be advertising the program by conducting information sessions. Intake information will be collected from potential new students during information sessions. CGCA will administer assessments and create workshops that facilitate personal and professional development and academic skill building. CGCA’s will be trained and will provide students with academic guidance. CGCA will contact students for assistance and collect data as to the progression and completion of students earning certificates and degrees in the T&L Program and throughout the CAOT Department. Hourly Pay: $ 17.39

    TRAINING:

    Structured training will be provided to CGCA’s by an academic counselor from the ELAC. CGCA training will cover: disclosure, rapport & documenting; certificate and associate degree tracks; GPA calculations & transferable courses; transfer requirements; and developing a comprehensive student education plans. The training program is meant to prepare CGCA’s to begin sit-ins and case studies with the academic counselor and students throughout the rest of the time working with the program. Typically academic coaching positions should last between 1 to 2 years while the student completes their graduate school program.

    Marshall Graduate Assistant Position

    Graduate Assistant Position—Academic Advising (Work Study-Based)

    The Office of Undergraduate Advising in the Marshall School of Business provides academic counseling and advisement to undergraduate students as well as coordinates programming components such as: New Student Welcome, satellite Commencement Ceremony, Tutoring, Orientation, and several events hosted for first-year students through the Marshall Connections Program (MCP).

    The office serves an undergraduate population of approximately 4,000 students (majors and minors) by answering general academic questions, assisting with development and clarification of academic goals and plans, and planning programs related to academic interests and opportunities. The Advising staff works closely with other University offices to ensure students are served effectively and problems are resolved quickly.

    The Graduate Assistant’s responsibilities will include:

    •  Assist advisors with advising-related programs for new and continuing students;
    •  Serve as support for front desk operations – answers general advising questions and departmental emails, schedules appointments, filters student questions and determines student needs;
    • Assist and perform advising-related services as assigned which may include: maintaining and revising program websites, tracking academic progress, graduation checks and probationary monitoring.

    We are looking for a first-year student in the Post-secondary Administration and Student Affairs or Educational Counseling program who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with multiple responsibilities. The successful applicant will have an interest in the field of Academic Advising, Co-curricular Programming, and Academic Support Services.

    The position will require approximately 10 hours time commitment each week for the academic year at a rate of $13 per hour. A work study award through the Financial Aid Office is required for this position. There may be some evening and weekend hours for some events, but not on a regular basis.
