Topic: From Bebop to Hip Hop: A Social and Artistic Evolution
Led by Prof. Ron McCurdy, this discussion will start with the genre known as Bebop which emerged during WWII. We will examine several other styles that evolved after WWII including Jump Swing, Rhythm 'n' Blues, Rock & Roll, Soul Music up through Hip Hop and Rap music. We will discuss some of the major icons and will explore the social, economic and political conditions that lead to the furtherance of these musical genres.
