Greetings All,
We would love to partner with Education Students on our volunteer event on September 24 with Computers for Youth at Animo Jefferson Charter School in Jefferson Park, which is 2.5 miles from campus.
CFY is asking for approximately 20 volunteers, which would roughly breakdown to 10 volunteers a piece. There are two sessions one at 8:00am to 1:00pm (breakfast included) and one at 11:30am to 4:45pm (lunch provided). There will be an on site training, but our main role will be to assist the families with set-up and working with the families and kids to learn their way around their brand new computers! Here is a breakdown of our responsibilities:
• Directly interacting with families as they learn to use their New Home Learning Centers
• Helping students learn through CFY fun and interactive educational software
• Ensuring families have a good time using their Home Learning Centers to improve their learning environment at home
Computers for Youth mission is to help low-income students do better in school by improving their learning environment at home. Their focus is bridging the digital divide, educational equity, family engagement, community empowerment, student empowerment, and computer literacy. By volunteering you'll gain real-life experience at LAUSD middle schools, direct intervention with students and families, helping economically challenged communities, working within the school system, preparation for employment in the fields of education, social work, psychology, and human services.
Fight On!
