MFT Practicum/Fieldwork Opportunity at Southern California Counseling Center ***TIME SENSITIVE***

Dear Prospective MFT Practicum/Fieldwork Students,

As we approach the time of the year when students should start thinking about practicum and fieldwork, I would like to inform you all of one site that performs their hiring process earlier than most. This site is called The Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC). The Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC) specializes in Post-Modern Narrative Therapy and is a well-known and highly regarded training site.

Working at SCCC will offer you an opportunity to work with a number of different presenting problems and provides the possibility to perform adult individual, group, and couples therapy. The training program includes working with a 1-way mirror and supervision and training are intensive and well-structured.

The deadline to apply for traineeships is November 30th, 2011. The start date for trainees is in March, which is relatively early. While it is true that you are not able to count any hours until you are enrolled in a practicum class (May) it will give you an opportunity to go through extensive training and to build a caseload so you can hit the ground running when practicum class begins. SCCC requires a 2-year commitment from trainees and there is a small fee for supervision each month.

Please go to http://www.sccc-la.org/ and click on “train at sccc” for more detailed information about the site and the program (here is the link: http://www.sccc-la.org/train-at-sccc.php ). If you are interested, it is highly recommended that you attend the orientation and tour which takes place on Wednesday, November 16th from 12-1pm. You do not need to make a reservation, just show up at 12pm and plan to stay for about 1 hour. I know that this is short notice, but if you are interested in SCCC, you should definitely attend this orientation. If you have any questions about the program and would like to speak with a USC MFT alumnus who is currently interning at SCCC, you may contact Koorosh at koorosh.ra@gmail.com.

Even if you have only a slight interest in the site, I think that attending the orientation and applying for a position can only be a positive experience for you as it will be a learning experience that, if nothing else, will better prepare you for the upcoming process of finding a site.
