O.C. Safe from the Start

Training of Trainers

This workshop will provide an overview of OC Safe from the Start, a program to reduce children’s exposure to violence. It will describe the Safe from the Start public health campaign based on current research from Dr. Bruce Perry of the ChildTrauma Academy.

Learning Objectives:

1. Discuss two goals of the Safe from the Start public health campaign.
2. Identify two guidelines for working with children exposed to violence.
3. Name the four parts of the young child’s developing brain.
4. State one function of each of the four parts of the young child’s developing brain.
5. Discuss two ways normal development in a young child’s brain may be altered following early exposure to violence.
6. State two of the stages of the arousal continuum.

PCE389) and is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
