Two new jobs at UCLA's Office of Residential Life

Judicial Affairs Coordinator

This is a second JAC to assist with the ongoing demand of the conduct system for 10,000 students. We hope to classify this at the SAO IV level (TBD). This position (see below) varies from the current JAC in a number of ways including a focus internally with ORL (not DOS) and with the Student Conduct Council.

Posting:

Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Education, the Judicial Affairs Coordinator is responsible for articulating and educating the residential community on student conduct related policies and procedures. The Judicial Affairs Coordinator will: recruit, train and supervise the Student Conduct Council and coordinate student conduct hearings according to specified procedures and "due process" requirements. Participate in the planning, designing and coordination of student conduct training for professional and paraprofessional staff. Investigate and adjudicate cases of alleged violations of the On Campus Housing Regulations; review and recommend sanctions; and manage the appeal process. In conjunction with information technology staff, maintain the ORL conduct database; provide staff support; maintain data; and provide reports on conduct data for internal and external audiences. Interpret and convey information regarding general On Campus Housing policies and procedures in compliance with applicable federal and state laws. Annually revise the On Campus Housing regulations. Collaborate with colleagues to address residential students’ behavior. Serve on departmental and campus-wide committees.

Assistant Director, Graduate Residential Life

This is an AD level job working with our graduate student population and families in Weyburn Terrace, Hilgard, University Village and the other University Apartments in the South area. The position is live-on in University Village with the office location in Weyburn. The additional staffing for the area is still being developed but we imagine 4-5 graduate student programmers working with this AD as well as some office staff. In addition, the AD advises WTHRA and UARSA. This position will have a high level of campus exposure and interaction with the academic side of the university given the nature of graduate student needs and resources at UCLA.

Posting:

The Assistant Director will provide vision, leadership and motivation for graduate student and family residential life under the direction of the Director of Residential Education. The AD will develop and administer the overall program to meet the needs of the resident population including graduate students and families. In doing so, the incumbent will liaise with multiple campus stakeholders including the Graduate Division, Graduate Student Resource Center, Graduate Student Association, faculty groups and individuals, and academic department representatives. In addition, the incumbent will coordinate service delivery from campus resources such as the counseling center, the health center, recreation, and career services. Additional responsibilities: hire, train and supervise 4-5 graduate student programmers and office staff living in multiple facilities; advise two graduate student governments; oversee scheduling and use of programming facilities; respond to emergencies and incidents of misconduct; represent the department on University committees and task groups; approve and monitor staff and committee budgets and expenditures. This provides “on-call” duty back up coverage year round. This is a live-on position.
