Posting Description 

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Dean of Students as the Assistant Dean of Students (ADoS) this position provides leadership and supervision to multiple departments within the Division of Student Affairs, including departments such as Women's Resource Center (WRC), GLBTQ Resource Center, the Student Outreach and Retention Center for Equity (SORCE), and the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA), etc. This position co-manages these departments with CU Student Government. This position collaborates with other diversity related units on campus. The Assistant Dean supports the development of the knowledge and practice of diversity throughout the Division of Student Affairs and works on division wide projects as assigned by the Dean of Students. As the Director of CMA, this position leads the CMA department to build community, support campus engagement, be a resource, mentor and advocate for historically underrepresented students, both domestic and international, including first generation, students or color (Latino/a, Asian/Pacific Islander, African-American, Native-American and multi-racial), students with disabilities, students with multiple identities, and other historically underrepresented students. The purpose of CMA is to identify and address student needs by providing services within a multicultural framework to promote academic achievement, personal and professional development and persistence to graduation.

 Job Responsibilities:
Assistant Dean of Students - Leadership and program development:
 - Provide leadership in advancing the vision of diversity for CU students, in conjunction with other departments and divisions on campus, e.g., Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement, Office of International Affairs, Student Academic Services Center, Student Affairs departments, etc.
- Support leadership to implement social justice and diversity related goals within the Student Affairs strategic plan.
- Actively support student organizations whose purpose is focused on underrepresented students.
 - Assist student government with learning about diversity and social justice and addressing diversity issues.
- Engage advocacy centers in shared communication, shared goals, and shared outcomes whenever intersectionality is appropriate.
- Support the fundraising goals and priorities of the division.
- Supervise directors of departments such as Women's Resource Center, GLBTQ Resource Center, Student Outreach and Retention Center for Equity, and others as assigned. Co-manage these departments with CU Student Government (CUSG).
- Assist Dean of Students with incident responses as needed: e.g., rotate after hours on-call, participate in response to bias motivated incidents, attend Critical Incident Response Network.
- Serve on committees and lead projects as assigned by the Dean of Students/Associate Vice Chancellor.
 - Serve as a resource person, regarding historically underrepresented students for faculty, staff, and in the community.
- Serve on Student Affairs Leadership Team.
- Represent university and student affairs to outside CU constituents.

Additional Posting Description Director of CMA - Administration and Service Delivery:
 - Provides leadership and direction on the purpose, mission, vision and service delivery of CMA and CMA staff.
 - Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of all CMA professional and student staff.
- Develops policies, services and protocols that are appropriate for the smooth operation of the CMA department
- Facilitates a positive and productive work environment that is inclusive, respectful, and team-oriented.
- Provide and oversee support, advocacy, guidance and community building in a multicultural framework.
 - Oversee various programs such as the First Generation Grant Program, the Peer Mentor Program, First-Generation Student Orientation, the annual MLK Symposium, Heritage Month Celebrations, CMA leadership programs, and other student focused activities.
- Develop and implement or coordinate outreach and awareness programs that promote multicultural education and social justice for students.
- Collaborate with other departments and student groups on programming to broaden impact and support intersectionality.
- Advise ethnic and diverse student organizations as requested or needed on topics such as program planning, leadership development, heritage celebration, diversity, intersectionality, etc.
- Oversee departmental communications including the website.
- Actively participate in Student Affairs division director's team and select divisional and campus committees, projects and initiatives.

ADoS/Director of CMA- Accountability, Budget and Fiscal Operations: 
- Oversee expenditures to support strategic plan goals and select department initiatives.
 - Oversee all supervised directors' budgets. Assist student fee funded centers with student governmental budget process; co-manage with CUSG.
- Oversee CMA budget, allocate resources optimally for achieving departmental goals, and monitor expenditures for broad effect.
- Routinely assess various CMA monthly programming activities and associated expenses.
- Meet deadlines for all requests for reports, data, publications, and budgets.
- Work with the supervised directors and CMA staff to identify potential areas for budgeting, programming and staffing efficiencies between units.
- Provide timely/pertinent budgetary information to administration and staff as necessary throughout the year.

ADoS/CMA Director Program Accountability and Evaluation: 
- Gather and utilize assessment data to improve diversity initiatives and programs in supervised areas and Student Affairs.
- Work closely with CMA staff and supervised directors to create and implement useful learning outcomes, assessment for students and program evaluation initiatives that improve service delivery.
- Work with CMA staff and supervised directors to create, plan, promote, implement, and assess services, programs, and initiatives that enhance cross-cultural understanding, intersectionality, inclusivity, and support of diversity.
- Plan and implement comprehensive programs and services to enhance the academic and social success of underrepresented students with a focus on activities related to retention.
- Represent Student Affairs administration or CMA by attending multi-cultural student events, on and off-campus.

 Required Education/Experience/Skills

 (Minimum Qualifications)
- Masters degree
- Five years experience in higher education which may include multicultural center management, diversity and multicultural programming, student activities, teaching, or other related work which includes services to first-generation and historically underrepresented students
- Knowledge of, skill and ability with at least three of the following populations:
First-generation, students of color, multi-racial students, international student experiences, GLBTQ or women/gender studies
- Three years experience supervising professional, student or volunteer staff
- Experience serving a diverse student community by providing programs and services in a multicultural framework of support, advocacy, and persistence for student success
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural capacity and across social identities, encompassing the practice of intersectionality and/or demonstrated ability to work with a variety of social justice issues
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple organizations or projects
 - Demonstrated success developing and administering budgets
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Team player
- Requires some evening and weekend commitments.

Desired qualifications 
- Doctorate in higher education administration, student affairs, ethnic studies, human services or social sciences, GLBT studies, Women and Gender Studies, Disability Services, related fields or equivalent range of expertise and experience demonstrating strong theoretical and practical understanding of cultural, identity, student development and organization development issues
- One year experience serving as a director of a higher education department
- Demonstrated experience in program evaluation and assessment
 - Demonstrated experience with emergency response or crisis management

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $85,000 to $115,000 and is competitive and commensurate with skills and experience. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package.
