GSG Updates and Upcoming Events


Please see below for a number of awesome events and opportunities brought to you by the Graduate Student Government!

Event 1

Event 2

What: Wonderkids Program
How: If you are interested in being a guest speaker please email: dkast@usc.edu Anything else I should be aware of?:
Translate your science into words that will encourage the next generation to become scientists.
The USC Wonderkids Program is an after-school science education program for first-third graders in the USC family of schools.
We are looking for speakers in the following fields: paleontology, medicine, neuroscience and animal behavior!

 
Event 3

What: HSC Book Club: Hunger Game (Series 2) Catching Fire
When: Now!
Where: GSG HSC Office, SRH101A
How: Come put your $10 deposit for your book, come to our book club discussion on October 18th, and get your $10 back, discuss the book, and a free dinner!!!

 
Event 4

What: Prostate Cancer 5K next Sunday the 16th?
When: September 16th, 2012
Where: UPC
How: If you want to run the race with this discounted registration fee you need to email SMGSA at smgsa.usc@gmail.com and we will give you the time and location to drop off your form and fee!

 
Event 5

What: "We Run the City" 5K USC/UCLA competition to benefit the Special Olympics
We Run the City is the first annual 5K rivalry run that supports the athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. Students, alumni, and fans of USC and UCLA will compete for bragging rights and the We Run the City trophy. This event kicks off rivalry week - one week prior to the UCLA vs. USC football game. This annual fundraiser will alternate campuses each year leading up to the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. Both schools will host more than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 170 countries.
When: November 11, 2012 at 8am
Where: UCLA campus Intramural Field
How: Each runner must declare their allegiance at the time of registration and whether they are a FACULTY, FAN, STUDENT or ALUMNI - they are then a part of Team USC or Team UCLA. Competition is broken into three categories: most donations, most registered runners, and fastest runners. The school that wins two out of three, or sweeps all three, claims victory that their school Runs the City. Bragging rights will be theirs for the year.

Anything else I should be aware of?: There is space available on subcommittees for planning and fundraising purposes. Please contact Erin O'Donnell at gsghsccs@usc.edu if you are interested in joinging any of the following committees:

Student Sub committees
  • FanFest & Event Program (expo booths, event program emcees, entertainment)
  • Campus and event promotion (identify locations and events on campus to display promo material and/or have promo booth, Special Olympics athlete speaker, etc.)
  • Social Media promotion (maximize Facebook and Twitter pages, posts, updates, tools)

Event 6

What: GSG HSC PR position opening
When: Applications due by Sunday, September 16 at 11:59PM
