Mental Health Conference
Colleges and universities are faced with several concurrent issues within the mental health and wellness as it pertains to the overall student success in higher education. Mental and emotional well-being and preventing drug abuse and excessive alcohol use are two of the seven priorities that the strategy has determined are key to healthier Americans.
With the increase in the number of students with mental health concerns, the complexity and severity of diagnoses, health and wellness priorities, threat assessment/violence prevention issues, and the effects of depression on the individual and the community, student affairs educators and counseling and psychological services professionals must collaborate to improve student mental health on campus.
Alcohol, Other Drug Abuse and Prevention Conference
Alcohol and other drug abuse continues to be a serious problem facing college students throughout the country. Research and assessment shows that many college students are still binge drinking and abusing drugs (both legal and illegal); and the effects the abuse on student learning, persistence, and completion can be staggering. Administrators must be proactive and establish infrastructures that will form a tight weave of policies and procedures, which will provide less room for error and more accountability to the process.
This three-day conference will bring together senior-level campus administrators, alcohol education specialists, health promotion and prevention staff, and researchers from the alcohol and other drug arena to focus on advancing knowledge of student affairs educators and information-sharing about alcohol and other drug use on college and university campuses.
These two conferences will be held concurrently in the host hotel, allowing participants to attend joint keynotes, as well as sessions from either conference with just one registration fee.
All conference activities will take place in the Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas from January 17–19, 2013. Be sure to use group name NASPA when calling to make reservations to ensure the conference rate.
