Other Conditions:
To begin September 1, 2012 or shortly thereafter. Position requires understanding of broad curricular issues for undergraduate, college-level education. Ability to effectively communicate with and advise students in all aspects of academic development and planning and possible career opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Advise students on curricular requirements, academic options, policies and procedures
  • Assist students in formulating and assessing academic and career goals
  • Conduct group and individual advising sessions and workshops for undergraduates and prospective students
  • Prepare and present information sessions for small groups and large audiences
  • Assist in planning, implementing and managing academic advising support programs and services
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of academic advising policies and procedures
  • Write a variety of correspondence and program descriptions and proposals
  • Possible evening and/or off-campus assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Academic advising experience
  • Knowledge of post-secondary curricula and academic requirements
  • Familiarity with current research regarding advising issues and advising models
  • Knowledge of retention and graduation issues in higher education
  • Knowledge of student development theory
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups
  • Must have strong computer skills, including using internet, e-mail, and word processing
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and see tasks to completion
  • Ability to work as part of a team and uphold established policies and procedures
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of university wide academic programs
  • One year or more of demonstrated experience in a managerial, coordinative/supervisory position
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet software
  • Commitment to working with multi-cultural student body
  • Concern for students, their careers and goals
