Selection Timeline:
- Applications are due by 11:59pm on Friday November 9
- The Selection Committee (comprised of 2 Executive Board members, a member of the LGBTQI & Ally Concerns Committee and a member of the Office of Campus Activities (with no vote)) will meet after November 8 to interview candidates and nominate a candidate and second nominee.
- An email with the nominee will be sent to Senators on the week of November 12
- Senators will have a chance to discuss the candidate in an online forum only for Senators (the Senator Google Group).
- Senators will be able to express concerns regarding the nominees via email to the Director of Elections & Recruitment or Vice President by November 19. The Director of Elections & Recruitment or Vice President will forward the concerns to the Selection Committee.
- The Selection Committee will address the senator’s concerns within 48 hours of receiving the concern via email.
- If the Senator’s concerns have not been adequately addressed, then the Senator can “pull” a nomination and present his/her concerns to the Senate during the Confirmation meeting with advance notice via email to the Director of Elections & Recruitment or Vice President by November 24.
On November 26, one of these two situations will occur at the Senate meeting: a) All nominees who have not been “pulled” by a Senator will be slated automatically and the Senate will vote “yes” or “no;" b) if a candidate has been pulled, a Pro/Con (maximum 3 such iterations, ending in a Pro) can commence for the nominee and a vote will commence with a simple majority required; or c) in the event that a nominee is not confirmed by the Senate, the second place nominee for the position will present a 2-minute talk followed by a maximum of 3 questions. The nominee and the second place nominee will leave the room and a Pro/Con session will commence in the Senate (maximum 3 such iterations, ending in a Pro). The Senate will then vote between the nominee and second place nominee, with a simple majority required to determine the candidate.
