Residence Coordinator Position

The Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service
Established in 1997, the Powell Center's mission is to prepare new generations of publicly engaged leaders from populations previously underrepresented in public service and policy circles. The Center also seeks to build a strong culture of civic engagement at City College and to mobilize campus resources to meet pressing community needs and serve the public good.

The Powell Center:
  • supports service-learning in academic courses
  • provides CCNY students with scholarships, fellowships, experiential learning opportunities and leadership development
  • provides support for faculty to engage in community-based research or public scholarship efforts
  • sponsors conferences, lectures and other public forums in order to increase civic participation and spark healthy debate on issues of public concern.
In summer 2013, the Powell Center will pilot a residential summer program for selected students in Washington, DC. Participating students will hold full-time internship positions in non-profit organizations and government agencies in DC. The program will provide weekly lectures by local leaders across a diverse set of professional fields, community-building activities, and opportunities to take advantage of the many social and cultural events in the city.
