Fellowship Advisor
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Fellowships Advising, the adviser is responsible for advising students and recent alumni about fellowship opportunities and for managing the application process and nominations for a subset of these opportunities, including the Fulbright (for graduating seniors, graduate students, and alumni), Truman, Goldwater, Boren, Gilman, and Beinecke Scholarships. Developing a robust system for supporting applicants for the Fulbright, including providing workshops and opportunities to consult with subject experts, and other resources will be a primary focus.
The adviser has special responsibility for the fall fellowship open house and for working with the Director to organize and realize a schedule of information meetings and outreach efforts that will effectively alert promising students to these opportunities as early as freshman year. These efforts require working closely with departments, residential colleges, and organizations across campus. The adviser will develop, update and monitor fellowship information and applicant resources on the OIP website and on BlackBoard. The adviser will keep statistics on the fellowship program as a whole and monitor trends. Finally, the adviser works closely with the Director of Fellowships Advising on all aspects of the program.
Essential Qualifications:
Position Requires:
Master's or Professional degree
One - three years related experience
A strong commitment to advancing diversity goals and experience advising high- achieving students in a broad range of disciplines about their academic goals and postgraduate plans.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience offering feedback on student writing.
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, alumni, and others.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Some knowledge of higher educational institutions abroad. International experience highly desirable.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office, BlackBoard, experience with Content Management Systems.
The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check.
