Assistant Director of Residence Education
The Assistant Director of Residence Education is responsible for the oversight and supervision of a Neighborhood of approximately 3,000 students. This position directly supervises three Community Directors and serves on the leadership team of Residence Education.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Education, the Assistant Director provides leadership and direction for a neighborhood of residence halls, and serves as the residential representative for neighborhood initiatives. Duties include: Oversees provision of programs and resources for students living in residence halls, in order to assist them in developing academically, personally and socially; Supervises, evaluates, and engages the professional development of live-in staff responsible for residence education programs and systems and residence hall operations; Acts as a liaison between the Engagement Center and residential units within assigned neighborhood. Serves as departmental representative to various University committees, commissions, task forces, or other standing, interim, or ad hoc bodies as assigned; Consults with University departments, faculty, and staff on mental health issues; Coordinates with judicial officers on appeals for contract terminations due to behavior and/or mental health issues; Collaborates with neighborhood facilities staff and leadership; Participates in duty rotation/crisis response management; Engages with security staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed and accountability is in place; Develops and administers neighborhood budgets; Disciplines staff as needed with guidance from Human Resources.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one to two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a master's degree in higher education administration, counseling or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible and expansive work experience in residence hall administration, counseling, human relations, and program development; knowledge of legal, ethical, and affirmative action practices for staff recruitment, selection, and appraisal; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated skills of leadership and communication, maturity, a well-developed sense of responsibility, sensitivity to individual differences, a positive self-concept, an understanding of how to promote student learning and academic success, and an obvious interest and enthusiasm for working with students are desirable characteristics for professional, pre-professional and paraprofessional staff members.
