Full-Time Position beginning July, 2013

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, CA, seeks a full-time School Counselor to promote and support the mental and physical health of the student community. Candidates should minimally have an MFT, LCSW, LEP or similar degree and should haveexperience working with adolescents in an educational environment. Faculty and staff members thrive at College Prep when they partake in the opportunities offered by a rich academic and co-curricular program and a tightly knit, diverse community.

We are seeking an energetic and highly organized individual whose duties would include:
  • counseling and crisis management with students, faculty, and families about psychological and emotional issues and referring students to medium- or longer-term counseling as needed
  • offering workshops for students on important mental health issues (e.g., stress, body image, etc.);
  • team-teaching Freshmen Foundations and Sophomore Health, with the option of teaching an additional elective;
  • participating in our grade-level retreat program and all Student Life overnights;
  • providing parent education programming;
  • meeting regularly with the Assistant Head and Dean of Students to discuss students of concern;
  • attending faculty and grade meetings and fulfilling all the responsibilities of a full-time staff person;
  • working with faculty members as a trainer and providing advice about students of concern;
  • serving as a member of the Student Life Team.
