Full-time, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
Salary $40,159-$50,695
Services for Students with Disabilities, part of the office of Student Special Services, is seeking a Disabilities Specialist who will be responsible for all student intake functions of the unit, provide disability management advising, recommend and facilitate reasonable accommodations, and maintain the department's data base. Widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the nation, UC Riverside is one of 10 universities within the prestigious University of California system, and the only UC located in Inland Southern California. Within this exciting setting, you will work with individual students with a wide variety of disabilities to introduce them to the services and accommodations available to them and provide appropriate follow-up and disability-related advising. As part of a talented team of disability services and other student affairs professionals, you will help facilitate a climate where students with disabilities are welcome and have an opportunity to participate fully in all aspects of campus life.

Minimum Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field and prior professional experience as a student affairs officer or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of college education and experience.
2. Demonstrated ability to interact with tact and sensitivity with a wide range of individuals, including students, families, staff, faculty, and members of the community, in a high-volume public contact setting.
3. Demonstrated skill in listening, anticipating, and responding appropriately to the needs of clients, including students with a wide range of disabilities.
4. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement a wide variety of educational programs for students, staff, and faculty, including assessment of needs, event planning, promotion, publicity, and presentation.
5. Demonstrated attention to detail.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
7. Ability to interpret and communicate the department's policies and processes to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team, and to work with diverse groups.
9. Demonstrated ability to independently compose letters, memos, reports, and articles using MS Word or similar word processing software with excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to update and maintain moderately complex databases.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Professional experience working with university-level students with disabilities.
2. Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation, student affairs, or related field.
3. Familiarity with community resources for people with disabilities.
4. Familiarity with laws and policies related to the position, including the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended.
5. Demonstrated experience with a student information system such as SIS+ or Banner.
6. Skill in using desktop publishing software.
7. Demonstrated experience with the UCR on-line Payroll/Personnel System (PPS).
