The University expects its graduates to be proficient in English, Arabic, the use of computing technology, and quantitative and research skills. English is the primary language of instruction and administration.

Zayed University is fully accredited in the UAE and by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the US.

The United Arab Emirates is a progressive country known for its high standard of living and its safe, family-friendly, multi-national environment.

The Department

The Department of Advising and Academic Development is one of four departments within University College. Through its innovative general education core curriculum, the Colloquy on Integrated Learning, University College offers students a high-quality, foundational, liberal-arts program, designed to prepare them for their future majors and professional careers. The experience instills in the students a desire for lifelong learning, fosters intellectual curiosity, and engenders critical thinking. The Colloquy program initiates the baccalaureate careers of all ZU students and has as its goal to build students' understanding of their relation to the world and to equip them to be successful at the University, in their professions and in their personal lives through an integrated, skill-rich, interdisciplinary core curriculum.

Faculty in the Department of Advising and Academic Development are responsible for the First Year Experience of the entire student body of entrants into the baccalaureate program. There are two specific classes assigned in the Colloquy program for the adjustment of students to university life. These classes are centered on Zayed University Learning Outcomes of Leadership, Global Awareness, and Information Literacy; they include the more traditional topics of academic and personal adjustment to university life, and then address Life Skills with a course of the same name as well as an Introduction to Entrepreneurship. For Department faculty, the advising/mentoring role is equally important to teaching; through advising classes and individual advising appointments, faculty mentor students and help them navigate university life. Faculty teaches twelve credit hours per week; they are expected to have a modest pace of engagement with their discipline/profession; and are expected to be active members of the University and College community.

The Opportunity

The Department of Advising and Academic Development is seeking experienced academic advising faculty to serve as academic advisors for general education students, and to teach in student development, career exploration, skills for life, and entrepreneurship courses. We seek faculty who possess a strong commitment to teaching the University's core curriculum, and are ardent advocates of general education as understood in the US model of education. You will be familiar with first-year-experience, and leadership curriculum; you will value teaching 100 and 200 level courses; you are committed to your discipline and contribute to its knowledge base via conference presentations and an increasingly strong record of publication. You will be inclined to contribute to an ongoing process of curricular revision and be involved in the design and development of the set menu of courses. Teaching load at Zayed University is established at four courses per semester with a possibility of reallocated time for research pursuits with tangible deliverables. It is a unique opportunity to join a progressive College that is actively working to enhance the education of young people in one of the world's most dynamic nations. The successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching. University College is committed to student success and seeks faculty who are committed to ensuring it.
