Job Description Housing Internship
Position Title: Housing Summer Intern
Summary: The Housing Summer Intern is a ten-week, live-in
position. This person is responsible for
managing front desk operations and the check in and check out of California
State University, Channel Islands summer guest. Duties include scheduling the
operation of the front desk, establishing positive customer service which
enhances the experience of our guest.
The Housing and Residential
Education Intern is expected to be involved in committee projects. Possible areas of involvement include but are
not limited to staff training, student leadership development, academic
initiative, alcohol education, multicultural education, and orientation.
Responsibilities include:
I. Administration
A.
Participate in village’s
conference “on-call” duty rotation. This rotation will ensure that there is at
least one staff member on duty in each building during evening, night, early
morning, and weekend hours.
B.
Assist with the check
in and check out of his/her assigned conference.
C.
Make sure guest
keys and linen packets (if needed) are placed and ready for check in.
D.
Provide a check
out report 24 hours after the departure of the summer conference guest.
E.
Assist in the
evacuation of the hall during emergencies.
F.
Maintain a minimum
of 25 hours per week (this is flexible
depending on conference schedule)
G.
Act as a liaison
between guest in his/her conference and the University’s administration.
H.
Perform other
duties as assigned.
II. Front Desk Operations
A.
Keep front office
in a clean and orderly manner.
B.
Maintain files in
front office. (I.e. refill needed paperwork, such as incident reports, program
& registration evaluations, etc.)
C.
Train student
desk assistants on proper desk operations. (I.e. answering the phone, checking
out a key, logging maintenance requests, etc.)
D.
Perform other
related duties as required or assigned.
III. Student Conduct
A.
Adhere to and
enforce all University policies and regulations.
B.
Assist students
in maintaining an environment conducive to study.
C.
Assist the
Assistant Resident Director in mediation of conflicts.
D.
Familiarize
residents with departmental and university policies.
E.
Document
violations of University and/or hall policies.
VII. Other duties (in
conjunction with Assistant Resident Director)
A.
Create summer
newsletter for Resident Assistant’s, RHA and Judicial Board members.
B.
Assist in the
preparation of 2015-2016 Resident Assistant training and retreat.
C.
Assist in the
preparation of the 2015-20016 Resident Hall Association and Judicial Board
retreat.
D.
Meet with assigned
members of the CSU Channel Islands staff to gain additional understanding of
this institution
Remuneration:
Summer Housing Intern receives
$250 per week disbursed in bi-monthly paychecks as well as $600 dolphin dollars
(food stipend). As a condition of employment, position is required to reside in
a private room (with a full kitchen and bathroom) provided by Housing and
Residential Education.
