The Upward Bound
Summer Residential program is an intense academic, social, and cultural
experience for high school students from 5 LAUSD high schools. The purpose of
the program is to assist first-generation, college-bound high school students
to prepare to succeed in postsecondary education. This summer, Upward Bound is
looking to hire 1 instructor to teach a Senior Seminar course to the program’s
rising seniors.

Description
•
Prepare the program’s high school seniors for
college readiness through creative and engaging lessons
•
Impart financial aid knowledge including FAFSA,
grants, and scholarships
•
Prepare students for the college application
process, discussing eligibility for UC, CSU, and private institutions
•
Assist students in identifying 4 UCs, 4 CSUs,
and 2 private institutions to which they qualify for and would like to apply to
during their senior year
•
Assist students with UC personal statements
•
Impart knowledge regarding services and
resources available to students at the postsecondary level
•
Help students develop/hone skills necessary for
college success such as study skills, self-advocacy, and time management
•
Assess student knowledge via pre and post
testing, quizzes, projects, etc.
•
Report student progress and behavior to UB staff
including program director and program coordinators
•
Attend weekly staff meetings
Qualifications
•
Knowledge and/or professional experience in the
college preparation process
•
Must have experience working with high school
students
•
Must have a bachelor’s degree
•
Must have a valid driver's license
•
Must enjoy working with high school-aged
students
•
Available to work Monday through Friday between
the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM
Starting Rate: $25/hour
