INTERNSHIP POSSIBILITIES

A unique opportunity for license eligible persons (MFT-I, ACSW, LCSW, MSW, M.A., MA, MFT, Ph.D.) to be exposed to and acquire a variety of mental health, counseling, assessment and evaluation, intervention, consultation and group training skills in a family centered-school based program working with low-income children ages 3-5 and their families.

DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Supervisor, Intern will be responsible for providing:
• Clinical Classroom Observation
• Follow-up on referrals including conducting Assessments and Evaluation utilizing a standardized assessment tool (will be trained)
• Staff and Parent consultation regarding atypical behavior
• Development of Intervention Plan
• Development of clinical reports (HIPPAA compliant), progress notes
• Consult with parents in reference to mental health issues
• Screening, evaluation, and recommendations for intervention for children with special needs or atypical behavior.
• Play and Art therapy
• Evidence Based Practices (EBP) utilizing standardized tools
• Assists in providing training that include such topics as child development; emotional and behavior problems; discipline; parenting; observations and screening techniques; case study skills, case management; and methods in meeting the assessed needs of the child.
• Periodically observe children and consult with teachers, assistant teachers and appropriate staff. Any recommendation that require implementation are discussed and followed up in concomitance with the education, health and social service coordinators/managers and parent.
• Advises and assists in the developmental screening and assessment tools used in the program.
• Advises in the utilization of community resources and referrals.
• Assists in providing special help for children with atypical behavior, cognitive, developmental and emotional features. All children found to need further evaluation after the general observation and screening, are then observed and tested by the mental health professional.
• Takes special attention to pertinent medical and family history of each child.
• Provide crises intervention as needed.
• Participate in a multi-disciplinary team including being a part of an IEP or Child Study Team Process.

REQUIRMENTS

• Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Social Services, or closely related field.
• Preferred-MFT, MFT-Intern (MFTI), MSW, ACSW, MA
• Bilingual preferred
• Experience with low income and young children
• Lifescan-fingerprint clearance
• Will receive Mandated child abuse reporter training

HOURS
• Full-Time or Part-Time (P/T) Position
• School hours 8:00 Am to 5Pm, however hours will be flexible based on need
