Job Summary:
Manages and oversees all activities associated with the Talent Search I Program, focusing on career advisement and curriculum. Job requires the use of independent judgment to manage situations.
Essential Functions:
· Oversees the recruitment and orientation of participants and parents into the Program from the assigned target schools
· Collaborates with Executive Director, high school principals, counselors and teachers at the target schools to facilitate the selection of students
· Liaison between Program, target schools and community agencies to ensure clear and concise communication
· Provides orientation for prospective Talent Search participants and their parents
· Provides counseling to students in the form of career planning, educational information and financial assistance
· Develops and administers comprehensive instructor, tutor and resident assistant training program to ensure quality of curriculum and Program success
· Plans, develops and coordinates relevant cultural, social and recreational activities for academic year
· Ensures all forms of written communication (i.e., letters, memorandums, e-mails) for parents, students and public meet the TELACU Corporate Communication Group Standards
· Updates the Executive Director and the Vice President of the Foundation
· Evaluates Counselor’s assessment of educational needs and goals of students and the development of individual educational plans
· Oversees maintenance of active student files and database
· Ensures all files are up to par and adhere to U.S. Department of Education
· Prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education
· Develops and manages Program budget
· Hires, supervises, evaluates and if needed, terminates Program staff members
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling or related filed, Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum three years’ experience in higher education in the field of student services with low-income, disadvantaged students; public speaking experience; competency with computers and their applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the Internet; demonstrated sensitivity to multi-cultural needs and characteristics of the targeted population; excellent organizational skills; experience in group and individual counseling; excellent oral and written communication skills. Preference for candidates who have held a prior position within a university/college EOP or TRIO Program. Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable. Valid California Driver’s License and proof of vehicle insurance required.
