The Office of Undergraduate Advising in the Marshall School of Business provides academic counseling and advisement to undergraduate students as well as coordinates programming components New Student Welcome, satellite Commencement Ceremony, and scholarships for continuing students. The office serves an undergraduate population of approximately 4,000 students (majors and minors) through answering general academic questions, assisting with development and clarification of academic goals and plans, and planning programs related to academic interests and opportunities. The Advising staff works closely with other University offices to ensure students are served effectively and problems are resolved quickly.
The Graduate Assistant’s responsibilities will be assisting with the programming components within the Undergraduate Advising Office; assist in data collection and will prove support for advisement services. The Graduate Assistant will work with advisors and groups of students to develop and implement programs, assist with publications and communication for our programs , serve as an intake advisor at the front desk, send out and perform other related advisement services as assigned or requested.
Duties for the Graduate Assistant include:
· Assists with Advising Programming including working with groups of students and advisors to plan events
· Undergraduate program communications to including the transfer student newsletter and website updates
· Assists with data reports. Develops data collection instruments, collects, and analyzes data for annual and mid-cycle reports.
· Serves as intake advisor at the department’s front desk – answers general advising questions and departmental emails, schedules appointments, filters student questions, determines student needs, and directs complex cases to senior staff
· Assists with and performs advisement related services as requested; these assignments include: website revisions, assists with transfer student newsletter, assisting advisors with the tracking of academic progress, graduation checks and probationary monitoring
We are looking for a masters-level student who is hard-working and a team player. Programmatic and advising experience with undergraduate students is preferred. The position will require approximately 12 hours per week time commitment for the academic year at a rate of $13 per hour. We are looking for a graduate student with work study. There may be some evening and weekend hours for some events, but not on a weekly basis.
