The Intercultural Center (IC) provides programs and services that support the personal and intellectual development of Asian American, Latino/a, Multiracial, Native American, LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual), low-income, international, and first-generation college students at Swarthmore College. In addition, the IC promotes systemic change toward inclusivity and equity across the institution, and fosters community-building and dialogue.
Swarthmore College seeks a qualified individual, reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of the Intercultural Center, to help to coordinate, sustain, support and evaluate programs. Responsibilities include supporting IC interns and student groups; assisting with event planning and programs; preparing correspondence and documents; professional interactions with the College community, outside visitors, and vendors. The position is also responsible for all administrative functions of the IC such as correspondence, reports, budgets, website maintenance, data and file archiving, and facilities management. The Program Administrator provides administrative support for the Assistant Dean/Director, including event planning, scheduling, and handling of confidential student information.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in coordination of educational, student development and other programs that speak to the particular needs and experiences of students of color, low-income and first-generation college students, and LGBTQIA students in conjunction with IC interns and student group leaders.
- Advise IC student organizations on event planning and implementation.
- Co-supervise IC Interns
- Assist with institutional programs and initiatives
- General support for Dean’s Office events and programs
- Budget management and reporting for IC Programs, IC Student Groups, and Sophomore Class Programs
- Facilities management
- Provide scheduling and event support for Assistant Dean & Director of the Intercultural Center
- Communication and general office duties
Other duties as assigned in order to sustain and grow the IC, Dean’s Office, and the College’s educational mission. Note: Hours may include occasional nights and weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
High school degree or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum 2 years relevant experience in higher education, non-profit agency, event planning, community organizing, and/or office management.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice and an ability to demonstrate critical thinking, awareness, and sensitivity. The position requires a demonstrated knowledge of and work experience with policies and programs relating to equity, access, diversity, and inclusion. The candidate must have prior experience with program development, management, and/or evaluation, especially with respect to social justice programs. Significant experience working in an undergraduate institution, preferably a liberal arts college, or non-profit/community agency is preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success reaching out across communities, including race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, abilities, class, and other identities. The position requires an ability to interact and collaborate across campus constituencies, including students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills; ability to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly; ability to work independently and with a team; and ability to prioritize deadlines effectively. Candidate must be dependable, detailed oriented, resourceful, flexible, and a willing learner. The position requires strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office and Desktop Publishing required. Knowledge of googleapps, web content management software, and web based systems necessary. Skills in facilitation, event planning, fiscal management, and advising/counseling preferred.
