This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month professional exempt position. The assistant director works with selected programs and services in Housing & Dining Services and Residence Life, particularly as they interface with international students and their families, as well as their roommates and families and other members of the residence life communities. In addition, the assistant director will work closely with the Office of International Education in addition to several student affairs units and services. Operational work includes communication with prospective, admitted/confirmed, and current international students; coordination with occupancy management of residence hall assignments; training of residence life staff on international student issues, intercultural competence and integration of domestic and international students in the diverse communities of residence life; preparation of materials and information for staff to use with international students; programs to acquaint international students and their domestic roommates, including roommate agreements and expectation development and other social and educational activities. The assistant director participates as a member of the residence life leadership team.

*Note:* This position will have some night/weekend commitments. It will occasionally involve travel for international student recruitment.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in higher education, leadership, student personnel administration, counseling, inter-cultural communication, educational psychology or related field with experience that demonstrates progressively responsible organizational authority in a residence life/housing program.
- Five years in program management, supervision, and residence life.
- Experience with international student programs, such as (but not limited to) experience as an international student or an exchange student.
- Supervision of various professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
- Demonstrated experience with student conduct, crisis intervention and emergency response.
- Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics, crisis management and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of university environments, processes, procedures and outcomes.
- Strong background in student development theory and application, particularly as it relates to international students and culture.
- Experience living in at least two national cultural environments.
- Basic proficiency in at least one other language other than English.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of leadership and program coordination.
- Ability to formulate and interpret policy, participate in long- and short-range capital and strategic planning processes.
- Experience overseeing a budget, including development and management of budgets in a university system.
- Strong communications skills, including interpersonal communication, writing, public speaking and presenting, and teaching and instruction.
- Assessment and program review experience.
