Summer Pre-Doctoral Workshop

USC has partnered with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) to host the first-ever summer pre-doctoral workshop for students of color.   The workshop will be July 21-24.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are considering Ph.D. study.  The four-day workshop will include sessions on applying to Ph.D. programs, structuring your courses to lead into a doctoral program, linking research to local communities and issues of social justice, and much more.  The workshop faculty is a "who's who" of top scholars from USC and several other national programs.

The workshop is planning focused, and our goal is to attract and recruit the most talented students from groups that have been under-represented on planning faculties.  Information and the application form are available on this web page:

The web page also includes a tentative schedule and information about the workshop faculty.

Our primary audience for this workhshop is masters students who have the aptitude and desire to pursue a Ph.D.  Please consider this opportunity, and also pass along this flyer to any persons who may be considering a Ph.D. in planning.  We are open to students from any masters degree in the Price School, or from any other educational path so long as they have interests in urban planning.  We are also happy to consider applications from exceptional undergraduates and persons who are not currently in school but who are strong candidates for doctoral planning education.

Please note that our application deadline is April 26, and applications should be emailed to Julie Kim at juliethk@usc.edu.  Julie Kim and I are both happy to answer any questions.
