WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.; occasional evening and weekend hours.

JOB SUMMARY: Provides general education advisement and information on University policies, procedures, and graduation requirements to the entire undergraduate student population by utilizing an advanced, developmental, problem solving approach rather than a prescriptive application to assist students in degree completion. Coordinates advising related programs for the Finish in Four Program and/or transfer programs. Collaborates as a team member on delivery of New Student Orientation, Transfer Student advising, Major Exploration advising, student retention initiatives, and academic success workshops. Conducts outreach presentations and collaborates with academic colleges and departments to inform students of advising support, degree requirements, and the Titan Degree Audit. Works in support of, and under the general direction of, the Assistant Director of Academic Advisement in the design and implementation of the Academic Success Program to support the retention and academic success of First Time Freshmen on academic probation. Manages and advises a college-based caseload of students, provides significant and frequent interventions throughout students' second semester, while continuously tracking each cohort thereafter. Through pre and post student assessment and in-depth advisement sessions, identifies major themes and trends within the specified population leading to academic probation, makes program adjustments accordingly, and provides regular updates on progress. Based on individual needs, implements interventions to assist students in identifying academic challenges, thinking them through, evaluating them realistically, and dealing with their aptitudes and abilities to effectively promote academic success. Works directly with specific college representatives to collaboratively develop a strategic intervention plan consisting of a minimum of four points of student contact dispersed among faculty, advisors, University resources, and specifically designed workshops. Supports an interdisciplinary team of faculty and staff by creating innovative and preventative measures to assist students in successfully completing remedial coursework and avoiding administrative disqualification. A consistent monitoring system will be maintained to ensure program participation. Will continue to track the academic progress of assigned students in subsequent semesters, assess the retention rate of participants, and make longitudinal comparisons. Will employ a solution-centered approach in assisting and corresponding with non-enrolled, matriculated freshmen within a specific college population. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. Experience in program development, implementation, and assessment. Evidence of implementation of a solution based approach to facilitate graduation and student academic success. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned. Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university in a related field.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
