Student Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications and nominations for the position of Coordinator of Operations in the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR), a department of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Founded in 1867, the Illinois campus is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions. It is one of the top comprehensive research public universities in the nation. The successful candidate will be working on a campus with academically talented and diverse student population, including 19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students from a total enrollment of over 42,000 students. OIIR includes the Asian American Cultural Center, Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, Diversity and Social Justice Education, La Casa Cultural Latina, Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center, Native American House, and Women’s Resource Center.
NATURE OF POSITION:
The Coordinator of Operations is a full-time academic professional staff member in the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs/Director of the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations, the Coordinator’s primary responsibilities include coordinating financial resources, human resources, marketing and websites, assessment and evaluation, supervision of student staff, and collaboration with programming. As a member of the OIIR leadership team, the coordinator organizes programmatic operations in consultation with cultural/ resource centers’ staff. Evening and weekend hours expected, as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as central communications coordinator for the business, human resources, marketing, diversity programming and other operational functions within OIIR
- Coordinate and manage financial resources and operating budgets (including monitoring expenditures, processing financial transactions); provide timely and accurate financial information to OIIR directors; compliance with university financial policies; manage payables; assist with budget and financial planning
- Direct human resources functions including staffing search processes, processing paperwork and orientation for new staff, and professional development for current staff
- Coordinate marketing and websites, including supervision of marketing professional staff member, graduate assistant, and student interns
- Coordinate assessment and evaluation of OIIR programs and initiatives
- Coordinating the production of reports and proposals for internal and external units
- Collaborate on programming within OIIR and with other campus units, including developing project funding proposals and speaker contracts
- Co-coordinate the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) for the student affairs division
- Representing OIIR on campus-wide standing and ad-hoc committees. Participating in Divisional and University-wide student retention initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years full-time experience with coordinating cultural, social, and/or educational programs
- Experience managing operating budgets, financial policies, and processing transactions
- Experience with human resources including recruitment and training of staff
- Experience with synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data into well-written reports
- Experience with program assessment and evaluation
- Experience with supervision of student employees
- Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Degree in business administration or related fields
- Master’s degree in higher education administration or related fields
- Working knowledge of expense and HR-related software programs and technologies
- Experience working with student funding boards
- Ability to relate effectively with students, parents and other University partners
- Experience developing programs for first-year students
- Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and community-building
