POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

TITLE:                        Assistant Director, College Park Scholars–Life Sciences

CATEGORY:             Exempt Staff, 12 months, full-time

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director, College Park Scholars–Life Sciences (CPS–LS), is a full-time, 12-month position that provides program support for this two-year, undergraduate, living-learning program (www.scholars.umd.edu/programs/lifesciences) of about 200 freshmen and sophomores. The Assistant Director will maintain a consistent presence in the CPS–LS office to assist the Director, students, and program faculty; provide logistical and organizational support for program events and activities, including service projects, local trips, and international travel–study programs; and management of program budget. Some weekend work and international travel are required. Responsibilities also include coordinating and teaching the second-year Scholars internship course, teaching one section of UNIV100, the freshmen orientation course, and advising new CMNS students during summer orientation. Additionally, the Assistant Director will work with the Director to plan and implement program colloquia; coordinate faculty and guest speakers; assist with grading; and participate in Scholars and CMNS admissions and recruitment processes. The Assistant Director will serve as a liaison to CPS administrative and resident life staff, and CMNS administrators.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s is preferred. Experience in a scientific field, undergraduate student services, student development, living-learning programs, or campus experience are desirable. Excellent writing, oral presentation, and computer skills are required, as are enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate in person and via e-mail with prospective students, parents, faculty and staff.
