The Annenberg School offers four undergraduate majors and eight minors while serving over 2,000 students.


Job Description

Graduate assistants support the advisement staff in several areas and receive extensive on-the-job training that includes participation in Advising 101, SIS and the advising database.  This is a great position for students interested in pursuing a career in academic advisement. Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, then following:

-Advise undergraduate majors during the mandatory advisement periods
-Assist in coordinating of AAAS’s student activities including the study break and welcome reception

Qualifications


Graduate Assistant must be enrolled in a graduate program through the USC Rossier School of Education and registered for EDHP 587 Field Work in Higher, Adult and Professional Education.  Course credit is required. This is an unpaid position.

Requirements


-Excellent written and verbal skills
-Two-semester commitment (fall and spring). Must be available to work on Mondays
-Must attend all training sessions (dates TBD)
-Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and social media
-Can-do attitude required
Hours: maximum of 20 hours per week.

USC El Centro Chicano Graduate Assistant



Position Description: The focus would be USC El Centro 15-16 Assessment project, which includes reviewing all departmental programming hence revisiting Learning Outcomes as well as questions being asked in our Surveys, making sure it is aligned with El Centro, the Division of Student Affairs and USC’s Missions. In addition, a comprehensive report would be the outcome of this GA opportunity.

There are also many other programming and services that can be discussed for participation in and professional development as well. Discussion can also be had on assisting in the planning of the 5th Annual Latino Student Empowerment Conference: Research & Practice on Saturday January 23, 2016 10am-2pm presented by: CALAS/ASE, El Centro Chicano & LSA & Co-sponsored by: APASS, CBCSA & LGBT Resource Center, as well as the Latino Trojan Family Reunion: A Night of Student-Alumni Speed Networking on Tuesday February 23, 2016 6pm-9pm co-sponsored with the USC Career Center.

Programming Specialist Fieldwork Position at Loyola Marymount Ethnic & Intercultural Services


POSITION

Fieldwork Programming Specialist (nonpaid)


MISSION OF DEPARTMENT

Ethnic & Intercultural Services leads students and the university in an understanding of interculturalism that transforms Loyola Marymount University into a community.


POSITION SUMMARY

Primary responsibilities include assisting in the development, facilitating and assessing outcomes driven culturally relevant and intentional programs and services to support student success and engagement. Applicants must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as be comfortable speaking in front of groups as well as the ability to assist with programs that may occur evenings and weekends as needed.

This fieldwork position will work with staff members, undergraduate students and guest professionals while coordinating projects and publications. This is a hands-on learning opportunity and is a non-paid position.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate student status required.
  • Understanding of diversity and the needs of the historically underserved and underrepresented students in higher education.
  • Sensitivity to transitional issues and needs among first-year/first-generation college students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong background in data analysis.
  • Creativity and initiative are required, as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish tasks.
  • Highly motivated, responsible and ability to work with students is a must.
  • Some weekends and evenings will be necessary.

POSITION: 4 Fieldwork Graduate Researcher - Ethnic and Intercultural Services (unpaid)

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

Ethnic & Intercultural Services will lead students and the university in an understanding of interculturalism that transforms Loyola Marymount University into a community.


POSITION OVERVIEW

To assist the Ethnic and Intercultural Services team in carrying out the mission, goals, and core values of the Department’s Initiative, with the understanding that the research should advance the GRA’s professional development. Coordinate Special Projects.  Assist with annual review of EIS sponsored curriculum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Applying and mastering research concepts, practices, or methods of scholarship.
  • Organizing or Analyzing Data.
  • Presenting findings in a scholarly manner.
  • Regularly review and critique journal articles pertinent to higher education and student affairs and submit at least one article for publication.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director, maintaining a list of items discussed and to be discussed during these meetings.  Complete other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Loyola Marymount University Ethnic and Intercultural Services Fieldwork Position

Fieldwork Fundraising & Outreach Specialist position

POSITION SUMMARY

He or she will draft a fundraising strategic plan for the next three to five years.  Primary responsibility for collecting, evaluating, analyzing, organizing, packaging, and disseminating detailed prospect research on current and potential prospects for EIS Department. The specialist will conduct detailed prospect research on major gift prospects, identification projects, and ongoing initiatives, maintain accurate records in our prospect tracking system, monitor market trends and media sources for relevant information that can help the department with fundraising efforts.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree required


QUALIFICATIONS

·         1 to 2 years of experience in Prospect Research or similar positions/roles involving internet-based Research, biographical or genealogical research, financial analysis, or data management.

·         Experience with proactive fundraising management and research techniques.

·         Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to synthesize data found in research into clear, concise, and to the point written research documents.

·         Ability to manage multiple projects while exhibiting an exceptional attention to detail in a deadline-oriented environment.

·         Requires proficiency in MS Word (merges, advanced formatting), MS Excel (including filtering, equations, pivot tables), and MS Access (queries, mail merges, forms).

·         Knowledge of University structure and prospect management system a plus.

·         Willingness to learn new online database and software.

·         This is a hands-on learning opportunity and is a non-paid position.

Fieldwork Assessment Specialist - Ethnic and Intercultural Services (unpaid)
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT

POSITION SUMMARY
Fieldwork assessment specialist responsibilities include student evaluations (surveys, listening sessions, focus groups) and implementing a student learning outcome assessment plan for the ethnic and intercultural services participants.  Plan and conduct program evaluation and outcomes assessment of student-facing services. This position will complete projects requiring qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in collaboration with EIS Department. This position will also be responsible for managing data and technology involved in storing, managing and sharing assessment and evaluation data.
Other duties include assisting in the coordination of culturally relevant and intentional programs and assessment of programs and services. Applicants must possess strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.  The candidates must be comfortable speaking in front of groups as well as the ability to assist with programs that may occur evenings and weekends as needed.
This fieldwork position will work with EIS staff members, undergraduate students and other professionals while coordinating projects and executive summaries. This is a hands-on learning opportunity and is a non-paid position.

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including skill in making oral and written presentations through various media formats to colleagues or subordinates to provide information, instructions, or explain subjects of interest.

Summer 2015 FIELDWORK OPPORTUNITY

Where: USC Domsife Office of College Advising Date Range: May 26th - to August 21st **
The Domsife Advising Office provides academic advising for undecided/undeclared  students, as well as students pursuing a pre­ professional emphasis (Pre-Law and Pre-Grad). This summer we are looking for 2 PASA or HEC student who are interested in academic advising, assessment, and are knowledgeable in social media outlets. Students who intern in our office will get the following experience:

  Hands on advising experience
  Orientation experience
  Indepth mentoring and training by our staff
  The opportunity to contribute to and participate in fall planning
