“The Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) are pleased to announce the 2014–2015 WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology award. This $1,500 award may be given either for a master’s thesis or for a doctoral dissertation and is intended to recognize the innovative application of technology to scholarship. Each member institution may submit one nomination for this award.

“The 2014–2015 award consists of a certificate of award, $1,500 to the recipient, and travel expenses for the student and student’s adviser to receive the award at the annual meeting of the Association.”

Two Opportunities for Graduate Student Funding!

1. Applications for the NACADA Graduate Student Regional Scholarship program are still being accepted.  NACADA will provide selected student members with an opportunity to attend an upcoming Regional Conference this spring by waiving the student member registration fee.  This exciting opportunity is possible due to the success of the NACADA Silent Auction held each year during the Annual Conference.
   
   NACADA encourages all eligible student members to apply for these scholarships! This is an exciting opportunity for the Association to support our members and encourage involvement for our annual conference.
   The deadline to apply for Region 7 Conference is January 31, 2014.
   The deadline to apply for Region 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, and the Research Symposium is February 5, 2014.
   The deadline to apply for Region 3, 6, and 10 is April 2, 2014.

Rotary Foundation Global Grants Information Session

Rotary Foundation Global Grants Information Session February 22, 12-1pm
Location: Leavey Library Auditorium

USC Professor Mina Soroosh, a Rotary Scholarship recipient, will join the Academic & International Fellowships staff for a presentation on the Rotary Global Grant Program (formerly Ambassadorial Scholarships). Rotary Foundation Global Grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in the areas of: Peace and conflict prevention, Disease prevention and treatment, Water and sanitation, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy, and Economic and community development.  Projects must have a minimum budget of $30,000 and may include humanitarian projects as well as scholarship for graduate-level academic studies.  US Citizenship is not required in order to apply.

FUTURE HISTORY MAKERS AWARD

HOPE and Estee Lauder Companies have partnered together to honor the accomplishment of future history making Latinas in their local communities. The honorees should foster a unique spirit of teamwork, innovation, passion and should posses a vision that brings community together or charts a new path of discovery. As “Future History Makers,” these Latinas should strive for excellence and deliver their best efforts towards being positive role models and creating change.

HOPE
Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to ensuring political and economic parity for Latinas through leadership, advocacy, and education to benefit all communities and the status of women. HOPE strives to create social change by creating an environment which allows Latinas to lead, and forever alter their sense of what is possible, both for themselves and their communities.

Latina History Day Conference
An annual conference established to recognize the historic and current achievements of Latinas, discuss community issues, and embrace Latina culture.  HOPE was instrumental in securing local, county, state, and congressional officials to declare the second Friday in March as Latina History Day.

Who is a Future History Maker?
For the past four years, HOPE has celebrated Future History Makers at the Latina History Day Conference. Future History Makers are the next generation of Latina women, ages 18 to 25, working to make an impact in their community. They should be currently involved in activities/projects that benefit the community, advancing in an academic field, or pioneering groundbreaking research or inventions.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

• Currently enrolled as a full time college student.
• Earned a minimum 3.00 GPA
• Must attend the Latina History Day Conference on March 8, 2013
• Selected honorees are required to arrange their own travel and transportation to the conference.

Selection Process
HOPE will review all applications and select applicants who will move forward to the interview phase of the selection process. These finalists will have an interview with the selection committee during the period of February 4 & 8. The interview may be in person or via conference call.


Award
Selected applicants will be honored as “Future History Makers” during the 22nd Annual Latina History Day Conference at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles and will attend the conference as a guest of HOPE. Honorees will be able to bring a female role model (mother, mentor, aunt) as a guest.  Honoree and guest will be pampered by the Estee Lauder team with a special treat and then participate in a photo session. Honorees will also receive a piece of artwork from a local Latina artist, a prize package from Estee Lauder Companies, and will be featured on HOPE’s website and other additional publicity. Honorees are responsible for arranging their own travel & transportation to the conference.

Mental Health Loan Assumption Program

The application for the Mental Health Loan Assumption Program (MHLAP 2012-2013 award cycle) is available at the following website: http://www.oshpd.ca.gov/HPEF/MHLAP.html for registered or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists that work in public mental health.  The deadline for submission is August 17, 2012.  Applications and other related documents postmarked after the deadline will not be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE: The County of Los Angeles was allocated $1.4 million FY 2011 – 2012 (recently awarded).  We HIGHLY encourage you to apply.    

Background: The MHLAP was created by the Mental Health Services Act (Act), passed by California voters in November 2004. The Act provided funding to develop a loan forgiveness program in order to retain qualified professionals working within the Public Mental Health System (PMHS). Through the Workforce Education and Training component of the Act, $5 million is allocated yearly to loan assumption awards. An award recipient may receive up to $10,000 to repay educational loans in exchange for a 12-month serviceobligation in a hard-to-fill or retain position within the County PMHS.

Eligible Professions: Counties determine which professions are eligible for their County's hard-to-fill/ retain positions.Eligible professions include, but are not limited to, Registered or Licensed Psychologists, Registered or Licensed Psychiatrists, Postdoctoral Psychological Assistants, Postdoctoral Psychological Trainees, Registered or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Registered or Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Interns , and Registered or Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners in California.

NACADA Graduate Student Scholarships Available!

Applications for the NACADA Graduate Student Regional Conference Scholarship program are still being accepted. Share, Learn and Connect: Los Angeles 2012 @ USC

Share, Learn & Connect (SLC) is a one-day workshop offered in four regions across California: Bay Area, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. SLC offers educational sessions designed to meet the needs of all counselors who work with high school and community college students transitioning to college. McKnight Doctoral Fellowship Program

Dear students:

The McKnight Doctoral Fellowship Program is designed to address the under-representation of African American and Hispanic faculty at colleges and universities in Florida by increasing the pool of candidates qualified with Ph.D. degrees to teach at the college and university levels.

It is a great funding opportunity for talented undergraduate seniors and master’s degree students who are planning to pursue a Ph.D. At Florida International University (FIU), this five year fellowship includes a $12,500 stipend plus a $10,000 UGS enhancement per year for the first three years, followed by a graduate assistantship for years 4 and 5. In addition, recipients receive a tuition waiver and health insurance.

WHO MAY APPLY: Applicants must be African American or Hispanic U.S. citizens who hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Since this program is intended to increase African American and Hispanic enrollment in Ph.D. programs, currently enrolled doctoral students are not eligible to apply.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY: The Fellowship will be awarded only to persons who intend to seek the Ph.D. degree, full-time, in one of the following eligible fields of study: any field in the Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, Nursing, or the Visual and Performing Arts. Fellowship funding is contingent upon Legislative approval.
