Mental Health Loan Assumption Program

The application for the Mental Health Loan Assumption Program (MHLAP 2012-2013 award cycle) is available at the following website: http://www.oshpd.ca.gov/HPEF/MHLAP.html for registered or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists that work in public mental health.  The deadline for submission is August 17, 2012.  Applications and other related documents postmarked after the deadline will not be accepted.

PLEASE NOTE: The County of Los Angeles was allocated $1.4 million FY 2011 – 2012 (recently awarded).  We HIGHLY encourage you to apply.    

Background: The MHLAP was created by the Mental Health Services Act (Act), passed by California voters in November 2004. The Act provided funding to develop a loan forgiveness program in order to retain qualified professionals working within the Public Mental Health System (PMHS). Through the Workforce Education and Training component of the Act, $5 million is allocated yearly to loan assumption awards. An award recipient may receive up to $10,000 to repay educational loans in exchange for a 12-month serviceobligation in a hard-to-fill or retain position within the County PMHS.
Eligible Professions: Counties determine which professions are eligible for their County's hard-to-fill/ retain positions.Eligible professions include, but are not limited to, Registered or Licensed Psychologists, Registered or Licensed Psychiatrists, Postdoctoral Psychological Assistants, Postdoctoral Psychological Trainees, Registered or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Registered or Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Interns , and Registered or Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners in California.

Loan Forgiveness Information Session
Have you heard about Public Service Loan Forgiveness? Do you know how to go about consolidating your loans? Do you know about Income-Based Repayment of loans? Are you concerned about managing your finances after graduation? If you want to know more about any of these questions, or you just want to know more about your options with your loans, then join us on Wednesday 1/18/12 at 3pm in Leavey Library Auditorium for a presentation with Patrick Moore from USC Financial Aid. He will provide information about consolidating your loans, securing income-based repayment and the possibility of loan forgiveness after 10 years of repayment. This program is for all PASA, MFT, Educational Counseling and School Counseling students. Don't miss this informative session!

2011 USC Federal Work-Study Job Fair

The job fair is designed to help in-coming freshmen, transfer and graduate students locate work-study positions on campus to enhance their educational experience. The job fair will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011 in the Von Kleinsmid Center (VKC) Courtyard from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Students will be given the opportunity to personally meet and schedule interview appointments at this time.
