Peer Mentoring Program
Position Renaissance Scholars (RS) Graduate Intern
Program Summary
Student Support and Equity Programs (SSEP) aims to make a positive difference in the lives of students through
high quality programs and services that promote educational opportunity and
support student learning and success. Major programs and service areas include
the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Summer Bridge, the Undeclared Student
Program, and Renaissance Scholars.
Renaissance Scholars is a comprehensive academic
support program that empowers former foster youth through higher education. The
program provides a broad range of services and experiences that support
transition and success, enabling youth to become educated and engaged
citizens.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, the RS Graduate Intern
will assist the Renaissance Scholars staff as follows:
- Participate in staff development training
- Supervise a team of 4 peer mentors
- Recruit, interview, select a team of 3-4 peer mentors for the Academic Year 2015-16
- Create personal and professional development training curriculum for peer mentors.
- Facilitate bi-weekly in-service trainings for peer mentoring staff
- Meet weekly in 1-1 sessions with peer mentoring staff.
- Support the planning and facilitation of the First Year and Senior Seminar workshops.
- Assist with maintenance of mentor/mentee files; keep record of individual advising contacts, referrals, and follow-up activities for reporting and evaluation purposes.
- Meet regularly with the RS staff; follow up on action items as appropriate.
- Participate in staff meetings, advisor meetings, in-service training sessions, retreats and planning sessions as appropriate.
- Provide support with existing RS projects as needed (ex: Celebration of Excellence, Fall Welcome, Annual Retreat, Summer Bridge, etc).
- Assist with ongoing assessment and development projects for Renaissance Scholars as needed.
- Participate in Outreach and recruitment opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements &
Qualifications
Must
be currently enrolled in a Master’s program with an emphasis in Social Work, Student
Development/Higher Education, Counseling, or related degree. Must be skilled
with using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must have excellent verbal and written
communication skills. Must have experience in collaborating with diverse groups
of students, staff and faculty.
Commitment:
September
2014 – June 2015
$13
hour; 15-25 hours a week.
Occasional
evenings and weekends required
