Summary of Presentation:

Skills such as mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance are invaluable for those working to overcome complex problems. DBT is an evidence-based treatment that can be utilized with a wide range of psychological issues. In her private practice, Ms. Lindau works with clients who suffer severe depression and chronic suicidality. This workshop will introduce attendees to the concepts of implementing tools from DBT within the private practice.  The goal of DBT treatment is to support clients in learning not only to live with their emotional vulnerability but also to regulate intense emotions. Participants will learn what makes DBT unique, gain a better understanding of implementing DBT, experience some of the techniques and be given resources and tools that they can use in their own private practice.  There will be time for questions, discussion and clinical vignettes will be offered.

Learning Objectives:

·                     Identify (3) problem behaviors addressed in DBT treatment.
·                     Be able to explain the benefits of DBT training to clients.
·                     Understand the concepts behind the design of DBT techniques for a specific group of clients.
·                     Design and integrate modified DBT skills into a group.
·                     Increase their awareness of resources and additional support to enhance their DBT skills.
