Career Guidance Counselor Assistant

Overview

The East Los Angeles College Transfer Center is seeking a Career Guidance Counselor Assistant for the 2015-2016 academic year from September 2015 through June 2016, with possibility of extension. This position is 20 hours per week within the hours of 8am-7pm Monday thru Thursday and 8am-4pm on Friday.

Applicants should be excited to work in a dynamic, collaborative  environment with a “student’s first” attitude and possess a desire to increase community college transfer rates.  Knowledge of current transfer process practices  to the University of California, California State University, private university and out-of-state university options is strongly preferred.

Education Requirement

Current enrollment in a Master’s degree graduate school program within the following disciplines:  counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work (MSW) or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent. 

Preference will be given to applicants that are in their first year of graduate program.


Job Duties

-Contribute to excellent customer service with the mission of increasing student transfer rates and creating an environment that fosters student success

-Collaborate with Transfer Center and Campus Engagement teams for daily operations which include, but are not limited to:

-Response to phone, e-mail and in person inquiries from ELAC community
-Track student office visits and follow-up when necessary
-Inform team about transfer trends and updates
-Prepare transfer outreach materials as necessary
-Deliver and compose correspondence, input data and prepare reports as necessary
-Perform special projects as assigned
-Mentor students in all aspects of the transfer process including planning and application submission -Direct students to pertinent ELAC offices or partner transfer programs
-Prepare and deliver presentations for ELAC students, faculty, staff and community members -Support the coordination of special transfer activities both on and off campus

-Prepare transfer updates that reflect transfer process trends and new procedures
