Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The
Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Community Standards and Conflict
Resolution will enhance the educational environment by responding to and
resolving student issues and concerns initiated by students, parents, faculty
and staff. The Assistant Dean and
Director leads the overall operation of the student discipline process; serves
as the chief disciplinary officer and behavioral intervention team co-chair, is
responsible for promoting a campus climate that fosters civility and academic
integrity; and develops and disseminates materials on student rights and responsibilities. The Assistant Dean and Director provides
leadership in managing student emergencies and crisis situations.
A
minimum of five years of experience at the post-secondary level in
progressively responsible administrative positions in student life/student
affairs. Experience and/or training
in the administration of a student code of conduct and Title IX is essential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership and supervision to the following areas within the Office of Student Engagement: Community Standards and Conflict Resolution, the Student Judiciary and the Student Rights Advocate within Student Senate.
- Responds to and resolves on a daily basis a variety of student issues and concerns related to University policies, procedures, and/or personnel. Provides daily consultation, training, conflict resolution, direction and support for faculty and staff related to student behavior issues, emergency situations, policies, and academic integrity.
- Acts as the University primary disciplinary officer by providing daily leadership for the approach to the enforcement of student rights and responsibilities in areas including: Community Standards and Conflict Resolution, Housing and Residential Education, Greek Life, academic departments, and other departments in order to promote a campus climate that fosters civility and academic integrity. Develops, disseminates, interprets and enforces the Student Handbook, which includes the Code of Conduct. Maintains compliance with Title IX and response to allegations of student sexual misconduct. Establishes, maintains, and promotes effective relationships with relevant campus offices and external agencies to enhance collaborative partnerships to protect the safety and well being of the campus community.
4. Co-Chairs the University’s CARE Team, a behavioral
intervention team comprised of representatives from Dean of Students Office,
UNC Police, Counseling Center, Assault Survivors Advocacy Program, Housing and
Residential Education, and University General Counsel, and coordinates the
appropriate response and course of action following concerns regarding student
and staff members’ safety, behavior, and mental health.
5. Provides leadership in managing student emergency and
crisis situations. Reaches out to family
members and students when in need of assistance and facilitates collaboration
across offices, faculty, and staff affected by emergency incidents.
- Directs special projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement and Dean of Students or Provost.
Salary
Commensurate with experience
