Assistant Director, Orientation and New Student Programs at Emory University

Qualifications:

A master’s degree in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related field.  1-3 years’ experience working in orientation or first year programs in a higher education setting. Experience working with first year international students, students of color, and in leadership development programs preferred. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a personal commitment to social justice and intercultural programming, with a passion for new student programs and student leadership development. Candidate must have strong organizational skills; ability to work within diverse group setting; and flexibility with varied work situations. Work schedule includes some nights and weekends, and candidate must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.



Job Description:

The role of the Assistant Director is to plan all Campus Life aspects of the Orientation Program, as well as develop innovative and new leadership and engagement programs for first year students. Additionally, this role will continue to help connect the value of leadership education in involvement endeavors. This position reports to the Associate Director, Office of Student Leadership & Service.

 *   Coordinate the Orientation program for Campus Life in strong collaboration with the Emory College of Arts and Sciences.
 *   Support First-Year Experience programs, advising efforts, and the PACE programs from Campus Life. This includes serving on a collaborative committee with the Office of Undergraduate Education.
 *   Maintain Campus Life Orientation Budget
 *   Coordinate the recruitment and selection of 8 Orientation Captains and 100 Orientation Leaders
 *   Supervise Orientation Captains, coordinate weekly meetings focusing on leadership development and Orientation Programming. This may include co-teaching a weekly class/seminar with the Director of Orientation. Meet one-on-one with Captains on a weekly basis.
 *   Design and implement relevant social justice, intercultural, leadership, academic, and logistical trainings for 100+ Orientation Leaders.
 *   Design and implement two iterations for 100+ students annually of the Emerging Leader Experience for first year students. This includes managing the budgets, addressing risk management concerns, developing curriculum, and assessing the program.
 *   Over 2013-2015, conduct a needs assessment and create a social change/justice oriented summer program for first year students in collaboration with other Deans of Students Offices.
 *   Represent the OSLS by serving on the Family Programs committee, and support the Senior Associate Dean for Family Programs in implementing relevant programming including Family Weekend, Parent/Family Orientation, and others.
 *   Identify ways to include faculty in first-year programs more extensively.
 *   Serve as the Campus Life point person for family member needs
 *   Create and develop Family initiatives and outreach including new resources and programming
 *   Coordinate Senior Dessert Reception.
 *   Coordinate Humanitarian Awards Selection.
 *   Assist student organizations in large scale planning of events, including risk management, budget, and logistics
 *   Assist with Advisor Outreach, Advisor Workshops, and Student Organization Trainings
 *   Sign contracts for student organizations
 *   Design and analyze program assessment
 *   Other duties as assigned by the Director and the Associate Director of the Office of Student Leadership and Service
