American Friends Program
Did you know you are
studying at a university with more international students than any other
college in the nation? Are you interested in learning more about the
international student population, their cultures, and their countries? Sign up
to be an American Friend today!
The American Friends
Program serves as a part of the The United States: An American Culture
Series (a free course about American culture offered to new
international students). The program was developed to help both international
and domestic students explore more about their cultures and the world. The
program serves as a platform for both Americans and international student to
take initiatives throughout the semester and learn from each other. As an
American Friend you will be responsible for the following:
Role and
Responsibilities
· Build relationships with international
students enrolled in the course
· Connect students with people, resources,
events and opportunities at USC
· Aid students in the understanding of American
culture
· Relate personal experiences and provide a
student perspective on course topics
· Participate in class discussions
· Communicate with students outside of
class (ie: inviting students to an on/off campus event you are attending)
Time commitments
· Minimum of 3 classes – dates and times
will vary based on class assignment throughout the fall semester
Class 1: Campus Resources and Personal Safety
Class 2: Regional Study: California, Los Angeles,
Hollywood, Popular Culture
Class 3: Panel Discussion
· Minimum of 2 class fieldtrips – Dates
and times will vary based on class assignment
· September 21, 2013 - Football tailgate
and game vs. Utah (Free)
· Reunion Bonfire- January, 18, 2014
(Free)
Please note this is a
volunteer position for American citizens (ie: born and raised in the United
States). If you are interested in participating in the American Friends Program

Please respond with
the class time/s you are available. Below are the dates and times of the
classes:
· Wednesdays: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
· Wednesdays: 2 – 4 p.m.
· Wednesdays: 3 – 5 p.m.
· Thursdays: 3 – 5 p.m.
· Thursdays: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
· Friday 4 – 6 p.m.
The deadline to commit
is Wednesday, September 4.
