A Rossier Student
Practicum/Fieldwork Opportunity
Spring
2015
Civil Rights Act 50th
Anniversary Commemoration
“Video and Instructional Resources Project”
The
following describes an immediate opportunity for students in Rossier who are
interested in a practicum, fieldwork or alternative course project.
Participation in this project is subject to approval by your advisor.
Background
Activities are being planned and carried out within RSOE this year
to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. These
activities are being organized by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee with
support from Faculty Council and the Dean’s office. Events include a guest
speaker series, a faculty field trip and special activities during faculty and
staff meetings. Goals of these activities include a) expanding our
understanding of the meaning of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, b)
increasing the sense of community within Rossier, and c) developing a knowledge
base and set of related instructional resources to support teaching inside and
outside of Rossier.
Project Summary
This project is focused on the third goal of developing
instructional resources out of the various events taking place this year. The
aim of this project will be to produce resources based on the events that can
be used by others to enhance discussion and teaching around diversity, equity
and inclusion. The resources may include videotaped interviews, instructional
guides, toolkits and other resources.
Project
Activities
The tasks
for this project will involve planning, fieldwork, instructional design and
basic web design. Planning will involve identifying events and conceptualizing
potential resources that will be produced. Fieldwork will include video-taping
events, conducting interviews and securing other resources and artifacts as
needed. Instructional design will involve developing resources into useable
instructional resources. Basic web design will mean assisting with making
resources available in suitable online venue.
Scope
and Timeframe
This
project will take place during the Spring 2015 semester, with deliverables due
by the end of the 2014/15 academic year. The scope of your involvement in the
project can vary depending on your availability and needs, as well as on the
number of participants.
