UCLA is looking to fill two unique, new positions for which they have received temporary funding. One is at the associate director level, and will deal with the advancement/coordination of graduate student career services and the relationship management of graduate level faculty, administrators, professional schools, and students. The other is a hybrid position at the manager level involved in career counseling and employer relations for STEM masters and PhD students.

1. Associate Director – Graduate Student Relations and Services (salary in low $80s):
Under the general direction of the Director, the Associate
Director for Graduate Student Relations & Services (MSP I) devises and
leads a systemized effort to inform, collaborate with, and engage faculty,
Graduate Division staff, program directors, and Student Affairs colleagues in
the delivery and ownership of career and professional development for
graduate students. Involved with the Center's comprehensive model of services
to assist advanced degree candidates, this position works in close
collaboration with the other three Associate Directors of (1) Employer
Relations/Customer Service, (2) Counseling Services, and (3) Campus
Relations/Development. This executive position cultivates new and maintains existing campus and employer relations focused on the career advancement of advanced degree candidates seeking both academic and expanded pathways. The incumbent ensures that new campus efforts in these areas are undertaken with knowledge of the existing resources (as well as the gaps in those resources) to minimize duplication and to optimize all campus-wide and discipline-specific initiatives. Employer development is conducted specifically for advanced degree candidates in consultation with the Assoc. Director of Employer Relations and includes but is not be limited to regional, national and international job/internship development and employer services. In consultation with the Alumni Association and academic departments, this position also serves to cultivate alumni constituents on behalf of graduate students hiring needs. The Associate Director supervises one FTE Manager for Graduate STEM Students. The Associate Director designs new, contributes to, and tracks Center-wide outreach efforts to and on behalf of graduate students. The Associate Director generates reports for internal and customer access, and advises the Career Center's distributive counseling and employer relations teams relative to the discreet and explicit needs of graduate students. The Associate Director may deliver direct individualized and group services to graduate students, represent the Career Center at selected meetings, conferences, and on committees, as needed or as requested by the Director; may handle special projects and other duties as assigned. |
Position reports to the Director of the UCLA Career
Center, and is expected to perform duties independently, prioritize
assignments, and complete responsibilities with a high degree of autonomy.
The position supervises one SAO IV Manager for STEM Graduate Student
Services, a hybrid position responsible for both counseling services and
employer development for this discreet population.
Requires: Masters, PhD, or EdD in counseling, education,
student affairs, business, or similar field highly desired. Five plus years
of leading/managing/coordinating work with graduate students involving career
and/or employment issues.

2. Manager, STEM Graduate Student Services (salary around $60K):
With guidance from the Associate Director, Graduate
Student Career Services, and in consultation with the Associate Director of
Employer Relations, this position serves as an account manager for employers
who want to foster stronger relationships with the Masters and PhD STEM
graduate students/faculty and UCLA. Activities and responsibilities can
involve personal interactions during employers' recruiting trips, visiting
employers on site, and discussing employers' needs during Information
Sessions, and Career Fairs, and other events.
The SAO IV Manager will also provide our growing, needful STEM Masters and PhD students with counseling services and programs designed specifically for their unique career issues. This encompasses all students seeking opportunities in academia and beyond. Counseling and career services will be provided in consultation/concert with the Associate Director of Counseling Services and the Counseling Manager for Graduate Student Services. The new Manager, serving as project co-director with the Counseling Manager, Graduate Student Services, works with the Center's Employer Relations, Counseling, and Marketing teams to deliver the PhD Symposium, an annual conference that combines plenary and break-out sessions on professional development with a large recruitment event exclusively for organizations seeking to hire advance degree candidates. |
This position reports to the Associate Director, Graduate
Student Relations & Services. The Manager is expected to perform duties
independently, prioritize assignments, and complete responsibilities with a
high degree of autonomy.
Requires: Masters, PhD, or EdD in counseling, education,
student affairs, business or similar field desired. Two to five years of work
with graduate students in higher education/student affairs, business,
industry, or non-profit involving career and or employment issues.
