Summary Statement: Under the general direction of the
Graduate Student Counselor, serve as the Assistant Graduate Student Counselor
in the Student Affairs Office of the Department of Physics & Astronomy. The
Department of Physics & Astronomy currently has a graduate enrollment of
170+ students and annually admits approximately 30+ new students to the
program. The Assistant Graduate Student Counselor's main responsibilities will
pertain to graduate admissions and recruitment activities. Prepare all
applications for review by the admissions committee. Coordinate the annual
Graduate Visiting Day Event. Participate with new student orientation. Organize
and participate in on-campus and off-campus outreach activities. Provide
general guidance on career opportunities and resources to graduates and
maintain an Alumni database of program graduates. Administer and monitor
Conference Travel and Research allocations, manage budget expenses for
department student organizations, coordinate parking permits for graduate
students and other general student service tasks pertaining to graduate
students. Other work and special projects are assigned by the Graduate Student
Counselor on an as needed basis. Prioritize and complete ongoing tasks
following established guidelines and Departmental and University policies. Work
independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team within the Student
Affairs unit of the department.
