Description
Mission:
The
Outreach & Recruitment Office at Los Angeles City College (LACC) serves as
a liaison to the local community and is responsible for coordinating the
College’s outreach activities in the community. LACC’s Outreach &
Recruitment Office is responsible for coordinating the dissemination of
information to the high school student, teachers, counselors, parents and
public about educational opportunities, including those at LACC; foster
positive relationships with educational partners from the K-12 school districts;
and facilitate the transition of students from the area high schools to college,
university or LACC through regular academic advertisement and other
pre-graduation, pre-admission support services. The overall mission of the
program is to expand student access to educational programs, including those at
LACC and to establish LACC as a path to a four-year degree or lucrative career.
Career Guidance
Counselor Assistant (CGCA)
Represent
a group of positive, enthusiastic and well-informed representatives of the
student body who are interested in working with faculty, staff and prospective
students to promote LACC programs and services. CGCA are integral to connecting
with future LACC students and their families. CGCA fulfill a unique and vital
role by conducting school visits, campus tours, staffing college fairs and
special events. Ultimately, CGCA will make meaningful connections and be able
to walk students through the process of the registration/pre-college
experience.
Position Overview
CGCA
will perform a variety of functions to the Division of Student Services
including but not limited to: Counseling, EOP&S, Office of Student Life,
Office of Special Services, TRIO Student Support Service Program, and Transfer
& Career Center to support SSSP & Student Equity Goal assisting prospective and current students in
the Admissions/Registration/Assessment/Financial Aid/EOP&S processes,
represent the college in outreach efforts, assist in campus wide events, and
helps to promote the image of the campus by appearing in promotional materials.
This is a student worker,” at will” position without benefits.
Essential
Job Functions
·
Attend all mandatory training sessions
·
Meet
with prospective students in local feeder schools & community
·
Staff
information tables at college/career fairs
·
Conduct
regular campus visits to high school through Los Angeles and surrounding. Must
provide your own transportation to any and all site visits (there are no
exceptions).

Provide
assessment information to students and may administer and proctor assessments
·
Provide
ono-on-one and small group peer advisement by guiding student through the
pre-registration process. This include providing general information about
college: financial aid, degree offered, student services provided, special
support programs, how to complete an application and for those who chose LACCC
the enrollment process

Follow-up
with students who complete applications to overcome difficulties as they
complete step 2-5 of LACC’s 7-Step Enrollment process
·
Create
flyers for college courses offered at the high schools
·
Conduct
campus tours for individuals or groups
·
Disseminate
information and respond to phone calls, mail and e-mails requesting information
about LACC
Requirements
1. Must be enrolled in
at least twelve (12) upper division units, or (9) graduate units, in counseling
or a related field at an accredited four (4) year college or university
2. United States Citizen
or permanent resident
3. Able to drive to and
from the college campus/high schools
4. Able to work some
weekends and evenings
5. Must be in good
academic standing
6. Able to work flexible
