Job Description Summary: | This position will manage a student advising caseload of approximately 300 undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge working with students in managing curriculum and course requirements, academic performance and utilizing university resources. The position also requires teaching experience and solid working knowledge of DegreeMAP. |
Minimum Qualifications: | Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus two years in an academic setting, to include at least one year of experience disseminating academic information and reviewing/evaluating student records. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Desired Qualifications: | Experience working with co-curricular programs and teaching is strongly preferred. |

Job Duties
Function: | Academic Advising and Related Duties:
Provides exemplary academic advising services to students throughout the
enrollment cycle – from prospective students to alumni. Monitors the academic progress of students throughout their course of study and provides academic advising services to promote successful completion of the degree program. Determines eligibility of students’ graduation from BBA, BAccy, and BS degree programs; reviews and evaluates students’ completion of degree requirements; composes letters to students advising them of graduation status; determines final clearance and compiles data for graduation. Maintains student records, to include maintaining degree audits, evaluating transfer credit, enforcing academic policy, and serving as a liaison with various offices to ensure the academic integrity of the student record. Prepares reports as needed, and protects the privacy of student records per FERPA requirements and GW policies. Responds to student inquiries regarding curriculum course requirements, registration and petition requirements, and University policy and procedures. Researches and resolves unusual and complex problems and requests concerning students. Confers with supervisor on unusual or complex student cases. Refers students to necessary resources on campus, as appropriate. Meets regularly with students on probationary status to improve academic performance. May advise students who study abroad, are external transfers, or are on academic probation: Study Abroad: evaluates study abroad transfer credit, curricular-fit, programs, and student eligibility to study abroad; works with the Office for Study Abroad to ensure that students are in compliance with study abroad policies and procedures; plans and executes initiatives that will increase study abroad participants. External Transfers: evaluates external transfer credits and insures accurate transfer of credits to GW record; works with external transfer students to insure a successful transition to GWSB and completion of degree requirements; coordinates with Admissions and the Registrar in order to continually improved the transfer student onboarding experience. Academic Success: meets regularly with a caseload of students on academic probation, assisting them with goal-setting, time management, referral to resources; develops and maintains academic success resources for all GWSB students; evaluates student records at the conclusion of each semester to determine academic standing of GWSB students; works with Executive Director to notify students of academic standing. |

Function: | Teaching and Related Duties: Serves as the instructor of two or more sections of BADM
1001, 1002, or 1003 (the First Year Development Program and/or Transfer
Student Development Course), a weekly course required of all GWSB undergraduate students. Holds office hours, takes attendance, grades assignments, and advises students on course requirements. Manages assigned undergraduate student Mentor(s), who will assist with the teaching of the course. Develops out-of-class programming in conjunction with Mentor designed to help undergraduate students make positive connections with their peers and ease transitional concerns. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs, explore best practices in teaching and recommend innovations in the FYDP curriculum. Develops course materials in conjunction with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs. Responsible for students’ meeting the Learning Objectives of the course as established by the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs. Conducts assessment for Learning Objectives to assist with overall curricular improvement and Assurance of Learning purposes. |

co-curricular programs throughout the year in one assigned area that is
related to student development; possibilities may include GWSB
Living Learning Community, Undergraduate Business Association, New York
Career Trek, International Student Advocate, Research Experience for
Undergraduates, Battle of the Beltway, Lemonade Day. Serves on committees and/or fulfills additional programmatic responsibilities; possibilities may include Colonial Inauguration (orientation), GWSB Scholarships, GW Professional Academic Advising Network, Freshman Day of Service, GWSB Commencement Committee, Admissions Panels, other committees or assignments as requested by the Associate Dean or Executive Director. In support of and collaboration with the Assistant Director and Program Coordinator for Undergraduate Programs: Utilizes effective event management skills to organize small and large programs as needed; facilitates and leads small group discussions and focus groups related to undergraduate student programming. Helps cultivate community building and leadership in students and advise student leaders/student organizations. Works with student leaders, colleagues, and administration to construct programs designed to retain undergraduate students and increase overall student satisfaction. Develops a comprehensive assessment strategy for each program that will gauge effectiveness and fit. |
