The Office of Undergraduate Advising in the Marshall School of Business provides academic counseling and advisement to undergraduate students as well as coordinates programming components such as: New Student Welcome, satellite Commencement Ceremony, Tutoring, Orientation, and several events hosted for first-year students through the Marshall Connections Program (MCP).

The office serves an undergraduate population of approximately 4,000 students (majors and minors) by answering general academic questions, assisting with development and clarification of academic goals and plans, and planning programs related to academic interests and opportunities. The Advising staff works closely with other University offices to ensure students are served effectively and problems are resolved quickly.

The Graduate Assistant’s responsibilities will include:

  •  Assist advisors with advising-related programs for new and continuing students;
  •  Serve as support for front desk operations – answers general advising questions and departmental emails, schedules appointments, filters student questions and determines student needs;
  • Assist and perform advising-related services as assigned which may include: maintaining and revising program websites, tracking academic progress, graduation checks and probationary monitoring.

We are looking for a first-year student in the Post-secondary Administration and Student Affairs or Educational Counseling program who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with multiple responsibilities. The successful applicant will have an interest in the field of Academic Advising, Co-curricular Programming, and Academic Support Services.

The position will require approximately 10 hours time commitment each week for the academic year at a rate of $13 per hour. A work study award through the Financial Aid Office is required for this position. There may be some evening and weekend hours for some events, but not on a regular basis.
