Graduate Assistant Job Description

Title: Graduate Assistant (GA)
Department: Cross Cultural Center (CCC)
Time base: 20 hours per week
Salary: $19 per hour

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Student Life and the daily supervision of the
Coordinator of the Cross Cultural Center, the GA is responsible for coordinating the
educational and programmatic initiatives of the Cross Cultural Center.

Mission
The Cross Cultural Center (CCC) supports student education through creating community
based on socially just education. We are committed to improving outreach to, and the
retention and matriculation of those who have been marginalized in higher education. To do
so, the Center advocates for an inclusive campus climate. Through experiential programming
that supports the academic mission of the institution, the CCC develops and supports
students so they can be successful at PCC and beyond.

Vision
The CCC envisions a community where all feel safe from violence, regardless of their race,
ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, ability,
and/or religion. We strive to create a campus that respects cultural diversity and actively
welcomes the invariable conflicts that arise from actively engaging with a diverse group of
people. The CCC will be a space where people are supported in their intellectual, emotional,
physical, interpersonal, and spiritual wellness. The center seeks to be a hub for diversity
programming on campus educational resources and serves to support all students.

Goals for the CCC graduate assistant include but are not limited to:
1. Gain an understanding of the theoretical frameworks, and more generally skills and
knowledge that inform the practice of diversity education in student affairs and
community colleges
2. Gain and/or enhance skills and knowledge of how cultural centers operate and
collaborate with various university departments and student organizations to fulfill its
mission.
3. Develop and strengthen programming, evaluation, training, management, advisory,
and supervisory skills.

Position Description
Under general supervision, the Graduate Assistant (GA) is responsible for:

1. Program Management: The GA will coordinate the center’s programming efforts.
These responsibilities include: staffing and maintaining the center; responding to
inquiries; program planning and coordination; co-facilitate diversity and social justice
education and training programs as needed; updating and maintaining center’s
website; staffing programs and events as needed. The GA will also support and
maintain partnerships with campus departments, faculty, staff, and the surrounding
community.
2. Supervision of Student Interns: The GA will train, advise, and supervise interns who
will work within the CCC. The GA will assist with on-going training and professional
development of these students. In addition, the GA will provide support to culturallybased
student organizations seeking assistance related to event planning and funding
proposals.
3. Assessment and Evaluation: The GA will support department staff in coordinating
various learning outcomes and assessment projects. The GA will be responsible for
administrating evaluation and measurement instruments.
4. Other: Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Please note that the position will focus heavily on supervising the undergraduate interns, in
addition to supporting the general programs and initiatives of the CCC. Therefore the ideal
candidate should have some substantive knowledge base and experience that will enable
them to provide appropriate leadership.
A. Educational focus on student affairs, higher education, inter/cross/multicultural
education, ethnic studies, women’s/gender and sexualities studies, or related field;
concurrent enrollment in a higher education/student affairs Master’s degree
program required.
B. Experience in program (e.g., workshops, trainings, events, etc.) development and
implementation preferred.
C. Experience working with historically underrepresented and under-served students
(students of color, women, and/or LGBTQ) in a community college environment is
strongly preferred.
D. Strong communication and facilitation skills required.
E. Creativity, high motivation, organization, and coordination abilities required.
F. The ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy and
thoroughness.
G. Advanced analysis, computer, organization and time management skills.
H. Ability to handle confidential issues appropriately.
I. Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on interpersonal communication.
J. Must be available to fulfill evening and weekend duties.
K. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

This is a one-year position that is potentially renewable, depending upon available funding.
Continued employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background check and
negative TB test results.
