Position: Assistant Blended Learning Academic Advisor for the LA Galaxy Academy School
Job Description / Essential Elements:
The LA Galaxy is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as an Assistant Blended Learning Academic Advisor for students of the LA Galaxy Academy School (ages 13-18).
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience working with students preferred
- Training in teaching pedagogy and mentoring practices
- Experience in online learning and/or blended learning at the high school level preferred
- Preferably someone pursuing a graduate degree in counseling or pedagogy
- Previous college coursework in Mathematics and/or Science
- Previous college coursework in Language Arts and/or History
Knowledge and Skill:
- Working with students to become life-long and independent learners
- Helping students adapt their preferred learning styles to be successful with an online curriculum
- Managing a group of students and staff in an educational environment
- Applying recent developments, current literature and information related to curriculum and instruction for online learners
- Mentoring students through the educational process
- Strong knowledge and ability to effectively execute current educational technology (virtual courses)
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report to and assist the Blended Learning Academic Advisor with managing all aspects of the LA Galaxy Academy School
- Implement individualized academic success plans for students to learn life-long learning skills and become independent and successful learners
- Maintain a learning environment conducive to student achievement and development through setting and maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations and a high standard of rigor
- Maintain a respectful culture through positive class-wide and individual interactions
- Engage and support all students in learning by using a variety of strategies to respond to students’ diverse needs
- Provide specific, high-quality academic feedback to students
- Monitor student progress – daily, weekly and monthly
- Communicate with parents to inform them of student progress and work with them to achieve students’ goals
- Support in all aspects of the LA Galaxy Academy School
- Give periodic progress report(s) to the Blended Learning Academic Advisor
