Academia Avance Seeking Mandarin Teachers


Academia Avance is a charter school located in Highland Park, with the majority of students coming from Spanish-speaking homes and with 99% enrolled in the free-meals program. 92% of the last graduating class received acceptances to 4-year colleges. There are 2 positions available for any Rossier students interested in teaching Mandarin. The school is looking for energetic change agents. Candidates who speak Mandarin and are credentialed but are not necessarily credentialed in Mandarin are still eligible to apply as the school may be willing to help provide them with the opportunity to obtain credentials through examination.

Synergy Academies now serves over 1,300 students in grades K-12 in three schools: Synergy Charter Academy (elementary school), Synergy Kinetic Academy (middle school), and Synergy Quantum Academy (high school). All Synergy schools are focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and are intentionally collaborating with and co-located with traditional LAUSD schools on campuses in South Los Angeles.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The School’s Director/Principal is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school in accordance with school policies and ensures that the school is in compliance with all applicable laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Instructional Leadership
  • Assume primary responsibility for curriculum and instruction
  • Mentor and support teachers by conducting frequent classroom observations and providing timely feedback based on observations
  • Evaluate teachers in accordance with organizational policy, including implementing teacher support plans when necessary and using the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model
  • Ensure teachers implement effective daily and yearly pacing plans and lesson plans
  • Coordinate Professional Development and staff meetings
  • Regularly collect, analyze, and share data to drive student achievement and inform instructional practices
  • Oversee the school’s applicable testing programs, including the administration required state assessments such as CELDT, CAASPP, Physical Fitness
  • Serve as the main administrator in charge of special education
  • Oversee after school intervention, Saturday school, and/or summer school programs.
School Culture and Discipline Supervise, support and evaluate the Assistant Director of School Culture to ensure:
  • Appropriate procedures are in place for discipline, supervision, and Student Success Team meetings
  • Student safety through the creation of supervision schedules for Campus Assistants
  • Coordination of campus-wide meetings and events
  • Compliance and effectiveness of the school’s special education programs and services
Parent Engagement and Student Activities Supervise, support and evaluate the Assistant Director of Student and Family Services to ensure:
  • Coordination of field trips, including special field trips to Washington, D.C. or other locations outside of Los Angeles
  • Effectiveness of school’s fundraising activities
  • Implementation of required student health screenings
  • Organization of parent meetings and workshops
  • Implementation of school site’s School Operations Committee and English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
  • Effective coordination of parent conferences and school events
  • Oversight of athletic programs
College and Career Readiness Supervise, support and evaluate the Academic and College Counselors to ensure:
  • Master scheduling allows students access to appropriate classes
  • Counselors are meeting with students and/or families in a timely manner
  • Implementation of student testing programs, including CAHSEE, EAP, PSAT, SAT/ACT, and AP tests
  • Access to additional student support programs such as SAT/ACT test preparation, credit recovery, community college classes, internship opportunities, pre-college programs, and special summer programs
  • Timely support is provided to students to submit college applications and apply for financial aid and scholarships
  • Appropriate tracking of high school student alumni and maintain high school transcripts
  • Timely redesignation of ELL to RFEP status
  • Coordination of College Fair, Career Day, end of the year awards ceremony, Grad Nite, and culmination ceremony
Operations Supervise, support and evaluate the school’s office staff to ensure:
  • Maintenance of student information systems, student records, and school records, including the confidentiality of student information
  • Appropriate procedures are in place for situations such as student enrollment procedures, lottery procedures, student record requests, etc.
  • Drafting of policies and procedures, employee handbooks, and parent/student handbooks
  • Management of the school’s budget
  • Staff have adequate resources to do their jobs
External Community Relations
  • Effectively communicate with staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Represent the school at off-campus events
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community members, businesses, and organizations
  • Serve as the main liaison between the school and Synergy’s Board of Directors, including submitting written reports on the school’s operations to the Board of Directors
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, works as a team player, takes initiative as a leader, and is willing to do “whatever it takes” to help students, staff, and parents succeed
  • Has a strong instructional background and is willing to learn new instructional strategies and philosophies as well as how to teach other grades and subjects that he/she may not have taught before
  • Exhibits strong classroom management and experience in enforcing school-wide discipline policies
  • Works with attention to detail and is able to meet deadlines
  • Communicates well via both written and oral communication means
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with staff members, parents, district personnel, vendors, and other external parties
  • Proficient in the use of computers, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia presentations, e-mail, the Internet, and digital media
  • Has experience in a High School setting
  • Has either a Master’s degree in education, an administrative credential, or at least two years of school administrative-related experience such as in a coordinator or assistant principal position at a High School
  • Is willing to help teach as needed such as during summer school, Saturday school, after school, during school breaks, and/or during the regular school day
  • Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of and commitment to the school’s mission and vision
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred but not required
  • Able to lift heavy objects up to 30 lbs.

ACI Institute Summer Teaching Opportunity

Open Positions:

As a leading educational institute in the San Gabriel Valley for 27 years, we are seeking innovative, dedicated and qualified teachers to join our faculty at the locations of Alhambra, Arcadia, Temple City and San Marino.

32 to 35 hrs per week are possibly available for strong candidates for the summer term. Hired teachers must sign a contract to commit to the summer positions from early June to August 2014. Possible long-term afternoon school teaching positions are also available for fall and spring semester. Starting salary is competitive with other companies. 

Position Requirements: Applicant must be hard-working and enthusiastic teaching professional with excellent SAT/ PSAT test prep knowledge and sound understanding of the curriculum.

1.     A Bachelor’s Degree is necessary, Master Degree or above preferred. In-classroom SAT teaching experience is a plus!
2.     Summer semester program starts in June and ends in August 2014.Working hours are Mondays to Fridays. Morning and/ or afternoon classes with 3 to 4 hrs per shift are available. Possible Saturday teaching positions are available too. Teaching hours depend on subject proficiency and teaching experience.
3.     Applicants must be able to commit to the end of summer semester. 
4.     Employees must have a reliable source of transportation.
5.     Candidates must have competitive test scores (such as in SAT/ GRE/ GMAT) or a diagnostic test is required in interview.
